How to stop neighbor's dog from barking all day? I got new neighbors and their dog barks all day, for hours and hours, with only few minutes of break in between. A number of us got together and wrote them a letter but they didn't do anything in the day time, but at least take the dog into the garage at night. My problem is that when I take Mocha out to potty, that dog would follow Mocha on the other side of the fence. Mocha can pee with that dog barking okay. However, when he tries to poo and that dog started barking (somehow the bark is worse when Mocha is pooing, maybe he can smell it or something). Mocha would get startled and stop pooing half way or all together. How can I get that dog to stop? Is it okay to go buy one of those ultrasonic silencer and use on that dog? I really dislike that dog but it's not his fault, his owners just did not train him correctly. So I don't really want to hurt him. Is the ultrasonic device bad for dogs? My friend told me it's directional and that if I aim at that dog instead of my Mocha, it will not harm my baby. But what about the other dog? |

I'd get a handful of inexpensive dry dog food and pitch it over the fence so the dog has to chase the pieces down. It might keep him busy long enough for Mocha to pee and poop. Too bad if the people who own the dog have a problem with this, but I doubt they would if they can leave their dog out unattended all day long. The dog might even quit barking at you eventually and just be happy when you walk out your door. |
Will your dog potty on the other side of your yard? If not, try giving the other dog a command, like 'Sit' or 'go lay down', or take some treats out with you and throw them to the other side of their yard... might buy you some time. (I would ask first though) Sorry, Kristan, I type slow and didn't see your reply... |
Barking dogs Here is what I did about a barking dog. The dog barked half the night and during the day so I reported them to animal control they came out and gave them a ticket. It still didn't stop so I recorded it barking and took it to court. The judge told her if it did not stop that she would have a bigger fine the next time. It is a pain to listen to barking dogs. There is laws that are enforced and also a noise ordanance. on the dog control page on the internet it will give you some guide lines of your paticular city. You can look them up and print off a copy and send it to the people. It should stop. |

especially if you both own the houses. :D[/QUOTE] Actually, they rented the house from the previous owner. Hopefully they are one of those who moves often. |
The mill rescue I had Emma for some reason spurred Kismet (both Westies) to bark. AND she would bark for no reason but once Emma left it wasn't so bad. You could scold her and bribe her all you wanted. But now figure maybe some of it as I listen to the quiet is the basset hound down the course that is barking! Bassets have a very distinct howly bark. Maybe with Emma and that one being loud she just couldn't keep her mouth shut. NOW Emma is gone and she is not longer possessed. It seemed like it was a barking jag that once she started she had not way of stopping, like crying.....???? |
First, I would contact animal control and if they cannot take care of the problem then I would try to train the neighbors dog to not bark with one of those bark silencers. Since he barks non stop you could go outside alone without your dog and use it to curb the other dogs barking. I've heard of others on some reviews of the silencers who have been able to have success with it within a few days. Too bad the neighbors ignored your request about their pet. But you have a right to peace and quiet. Good luck. |

Thank you all very very much for taking the time to help me out. To give an update, I bought the bark silencer and used it on the dog while Mocha is indoors. It worked great! I think I will have that dog trained in no time. I also checked out my city's Animal Control page and sure enough, they do have a hotline for reporting noisy dogs but they asked that we try everything else first before reporting. I didn't even know I can go this route until I read it here. I think I'm addicted to this site :D |

My next door neighbors have a dog that did bark all day and all night. My mom who lives right across the street from me called animal control.. they did nothing.. not only did they not do anything about the barking, but not only that the dog is stick thin and isnt legally licensed and NOTHING was done. The neighbors parents, who live just up the road from them and us, threathend to KILL:eek: the dog if they didnt do something about the barking.. nice neighbors eh?? So they bought a bark collar. So now every time the dog try to barks it gets shocked. The reason why this poor dog is barking is because its starving, everytime she gets loose it runs right to where they keep their gargbage and a few years ago, she killed one of our rabbits that was kept in a outdoor enclosure, she tore the locked door off to get the rabbit..:(.. its just a sad situation. I have given them food, given her food, etc.. just to help out cause I cant stand seeing the dog that way. In your situation if a letter didnt work, I would try and knock on thier door and address it face to face and if that dont work then try the police or animal control. The dog is probably bored, lonely or whatever and thats why its barking all the time. People really shouldnt own pets if they cant take care of them. |
