New mattress
 
I just bought a new mattress and boy is it high. Scooter was always able to easily jump off and on the old one (it was really very low) but this is far to high and he will hurt himself. My neighbor is making a ramp for next to the bed and I want to know the best way to train Scoots to use the ramp. He doesn't always catch on too fast so I really need help here. His sister Bitsy is 3 times his size and has no problem with the height and Scoots can't understand why she can be on the bed and can't. I'd die if he hurt himself.

How nice of your neighbor to make a ramp for you.

I would like to train Max to use one, so I'll be watching this thread for tips.

I use a ramp by my bed and when I brought each dog/puppy in I just showed them how to go up and down a bunch of times and rewarded them with a treat. They all learned right away to use it. Even the 15 year old I took in recently, who is a jumper, learned right away to use it. I recently got a new mattress and it was higher than my other one so my husband took the casters off to lower it a little. Even with that it is higher than my other bed and the dogs have been jumping down the ramp at the half way point which I felt was too steep so I put a baby mesh guard rail on my bed so they have to go down from the top. it doesn't look to good but after Pixie having LP surgery I want to be really careful of their jumping.

Boy these little dolls are such jumpers. I watch him so carefully but sometimes he sneaks in a jump and it makes me so nervous. I'll be in the "training mode" as soon as the ramp is ready. Thanks.
