Knox is a pest. Lord! My girlfriend brought her 7 pound yorkie over today. My Knox weighs 4. Knox like always jumped on him, gnawed on his neck and ears, took every toy he showed interest in away, and generally annoyed poor Armani to no end. I've watched the Dog Whisperer a thousand times, but it's no use. lol Knox is so small that Armani just brushes him aside like a gnat. Fortunately "Monte" is totally laid back, or he'd teach Knoxie a lesson. The crazy thing is...Knox loves Monte. If I tell him Monte is coming, Knoxie gets soooo excited. In fact, if I take Monte into the shallow end of the pool with me, Knox will jump in and swim to us, well, not us, to his wrestling buddy, Monte. When Monte leaves, Knox sits in the window just staring for an hour. lol Sometimes though, especially if my girlfriend stays a while, Monte needs some down time. Either Knox is asleep or trying to fight. I feel sorry for poor Monte. Both dogs are about 8 months old and neither are neutered. Knox is little and hyper. He doesn't much like to be held. He'd rather run around exploring until he gets tired. Then and only then, he will crawl up on your belly and take a nap. He's very smart, completely housebroken and has been for a long time. And...he loves to be outside. I have had to put gates on both porches because he likes to stand in the yard and bark at the neighbors 13 year old pitbull who so far as I know has never left their driveway, but I can't take a chance. Knox is like my kid. Monte is completely opposite. He's a big ole lap dog. He has no interest in going outside. He's way more interested in humans than other dogs. He's clumsy and funny to watch. He falls in the pool every five minutes when we are swimming. lol He likes to play with Knox, but he needs a break once in a while. Monte is still not completely potty trained and absolutely insists on pooping in either his or Knoxie's crate. lol It's really funny how two dogs of the same breed can be entirely different. They have been raised very similarly, came from the same breeder, and have been friends since they were ten weeks old. I just wish I could get Knox to play nice. He will actually leap from the top of the couch onto Monte's head, and Monte will yelp. It's sad. lol |
My Claire beats up on all of her friends as well!! We are puppy sitting her mini shnauzer friend Molly this week and it is so bad that I have to crate them to give Molly a break. Last night we had to pick Molly hair out of Claire's teeth from her biting at Molly. They are just playing but Molly gets tired and Claire just won't stop!! I don't know how to teach her to be play more gently lol |
I don't know if it makes you feel any better but any body that has more than one dog under one roof finds the play time can be relentless at times! I have two boy yorkies. One is about a 3/4 lb bigger than the other. One week Chief is the alpha dog. The next week Harley is the alpha even though he is the smaller one. They are never aggressive with each other unless a bully stick is involved! But, they do play fight non-stop if they are awake. Hopefully they will stick to play fighting...:animal36 |
That makes me feel better!! Thank you! :) :aimeeyork |
As long as the 'victims' aren't acting or showing signs of pain or real distress, let 'em at it. Someone is being the alpha and someone isn't. It's all part of pack play. It's what they do. I get the feeling Monte actually is enjoying it, and Claire, if in real trouble will scream or run to you or hide. I have 2 yorkie sisters and 2 mutts. Sometimes it is chaos. The sisters at times fight.. A LOT.... Baby will take her cookie and literally place it 8 inches in front of her and sit there. Waiting for her sister to just try to take it. She'll even do that with one little piece of dog food. Anything to get the wrestling match started. They will take turns gnawing on each other's hind legs like a freaking turkey drumstick. Baxter will sometimes join in and then a cacophony. So, sit back enjoy the show. We figure it's cheaper than going to the movies and more wholesome than a Mel Gibson flick!!! |
I have a Pommie and a Yorkie that love to play. Never allow it unless I'm there to supervise. I can tell if Chipper, the Yorkie, is getting tired and I put a stop to it. When I leave they are separated. Age does slow them down, though. ~Joanne~ |
