Piddle Pad Training.....help Hello everyone! First time posting and first time having a yorkie. I had a maltese before who was so easy with training. Leia, our newest member to the family, is 6 months old. She has taken to the piddle pad really well. Whenever there is carpet OR mainly...if she doesn't get our attention when she wants she will pee a spot on the floor...she could of JUST peed on the pan, but will find a little bit in her tiny bladder to squeeze out. Does anyone else have this problem? You can tell she is a smart one.....but seems to peeing as a means of letting us know if she is unhappy.:( Help!!! |
When Leia potties on the pad, praise her profusely immediately after she does it. Never stop giving praise for correct potties. Give her a small treat (I use a single kibble). If you make her think you are extremely happy the instant she pees on the pad, she will want to go there for positive attention. Do not scold her for incorrect potties. If you catch her in the act, say "uh uh uh," but don't do it angrily. Then bring her to the pad and use keywords and phrases to indicate the pad is the correct place to potty. and welcome to YT :) |
Thank you for the reply. I have another one for you..... She will not poo on the pan either? She will only if she is in her xpen. Otherwise she will wait until you aren't looking or hides behind the couch. Any suggestions on this one? |

If you see her start to look for a place to poop that isn't her pad, direct her verbally and physically to the pad. Never scold. If she poops in the wrong place, pick it up and show her that it goes on the pad. Then pick up the pad and show her how you happily dispose of it. The key is exuding happiness and praising. Make it a fun ritual, and be sure to hide any frustration over training. Here is a thread that doesn't answer your question directly, but it might be interesting for you to read: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...y-poopers.html What kind of pan do you have? Is it the frame that holds the pad? When she is in the xpen, does she poop on the pad or just randomly because she is pent up? |
Yes, it is one of the frames that hold the pad from Petco. She typically will poop on the pad if in the xpen. She was 100% going on the pad for pee and poop when in xpen. Now she pees 100% when in xpen but holds it most of the time until she gets out of the pen to run behind something or go in a corner to poop. Like I mentioned before...peeing is pretty good...but just seems to have a bit of an attitude....like I want to go behind the gate to get to the rest of the house....so I will just piddle here in front of it;even if I just peed on the pan. Or...I want to get into the room that is behind the closed door....so I will just pee right in front of the door even though the pan is within sight right beside me! She is a precious thing....but wow...it is trying on the ole nerves!!! |
Agrrr...My little one does the same. ITs as if she is saving some pee for the carpet. |
How old is Rocky? Leia is 6 months. I have been hoping its because she is young that she expresses through her bladder! LOL:p |
I work 12 hour shifts and would like to paper train my two yorkies. I am not doing very well as it is and would really like some much needed advice and guidance. |
