My Hyper Yorkie My girlfriend has a Yorkie that is the most energetic thing you will ever meet. It always wants to play and is always wagging his little tail. The problem comes in when i come in the house or even her family comes home, he gets so excited that he will urinate. This happens everyday. Even when im over there all day and it has gone out a couple times to the bathroom, ill be playing with him and ill go to pet him and he urinates. This is starting to become a problem because it doesnt matter where he is or what he is standing over, he will go. Is there anything i can do to solve this problem of the over excited dog. It knows to go outside when it has to go and no one is playing with it. When you wake up in the morning and let it out, it will go out and pee. It is just when it gets overly excited that it goes. PLEASE HELP!!! IM TIRED OF CLEANING UP AFTER THIS DOG!!!!!!!!! |
Most yorkies do this. They get so excited they dribble. Try not getting him so excited when you come in. Immediately go outside and go with him and talk to him outside. When I get home I just ok sweetie lets go outside and when she gets through that is when we huggie kissie. :) |
A lot of puppies get excited and pee. |
Yes, this is very normal. My yorkie did this as a smaller puppy. Now that he is 11 months, he has stopped. One suggestion I've heard from a trainer is...to ignore them when you first walk into the house. Once the puppy calms down THEN do lots of petting and loving!!! |
My Yorkie was the same way when he was little. One time we had a friend over the house and Rocco go sooo excited. He jumped up on the coffee table and before I could tell him to get down, he peed all over it! How gross!! But thankfully, he grew out of it by about 8 months. Good Luck :-) |
I have learned to NEVER reach down and pet a dog with this problem . I either let them come to me or else or else sit all th eway on the floor and then kind of sweep up on them from the front. I have never had one stop if I kept reaching down from up top to pet or pick up. Truth is some never stop. |

And, if you're not in the habit already, be sure you that he pees before you play with him. Also, when you reach out to pet him, be sure that you are not hovering over him too much - what he's doing may be submissive peeing. Get more down on his level when you pet him and see if that helps. Let us know how it goes! |
