Best way to stop dog from marking territory? My dog is 7 months now I am thinking about getting him neutered soon, my question is I jsut moved in a new apartment and I don't want him to start marking his territory..now whats the best way to stop this? He pees alot and pees everywhere..usualy he pees here and there..someone give me ideas please thanks |
Have you tried belly bands? |
No havent tried those but I was thinking maybe after I get huim neutered he will stop? Any ideas? |
Try this site (sorry I couldn't figure out how to add it as a link)...It may help you with some ideas... http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/territorial_marking.htm I have also heard of putting foil on a vert surface to deter cats, when they mark it will come back on them and make noise that may distract them. I don't know if it would work on dogs. Nature's Miracle or vinegar/water also works pretty good...DO NOT USE BLEACH it can react w/ the urine and intensify the scent. If he is peeing everywhere and your just moving he may just be confused because of the new surroundings too...give him lots of love while you unpack and settle in. Was he potty trained before you moved? |
My boy is not fully trained yet so thats the other problem..he does go outside but he does inside as well..I am hoping to teach him to run outside asap so that way it wont ruin the new carpets :(..anyhow thanks for the suggestions I think I will just stay patient even though he is nearly 8 months now |
belly bands are great I got my yorkie, Tippy, because he would not stop marking and they wanted to rid of him. He is 4 years old. In order to not ever have him do it in my house I put him in belly bands immediately. When he lifted his leg I would say no!! Then I would take him out side and put on a clean band. It has only been a month and he is out of the belly bands in the house and asks to go outside to pee. I give lots and lots of positive praise when he asks to go out. I still have to put them on when we go to someones house. I make my own bands out of scraps of fabric so they don't cost me anything but the time. Good luck |
He can still be trained. Just keep working with him. Good Luck. |
