This AGRESSION?? advice needed please Zhoie 1.5 yrs has a male yorkie friend, Jussi, 1yr 2mos. since they both came home at 12 wks they play every week or so. Initally, she would hold him down and established dominance. They get along well. However, Jussi has 2 sisters out of the same litter that came home at 12 wks and are now 6 mos old. Zhoie has been around them too since they came home. When we visit, she runs frantic from one girl to the other holding them down on their backs, her legs are across their chest and she is in their faces growling. Sounds awful, but she has never bitten them. After a while she settles down and they all get along, unless the pups start jumping around her head then she reacts the same way. Is this agression or a dominance type thing? I don't know what this means or how to help her work through this reaction. Any ideas, have you seen this before???? |
Tena, she is just being a yorkie. She is older than the puppies and is using her motherly instincts to help establish who is the alpha (her). She isn't being mean or aggresive. This is the exact same thing a mama dog does with her babies to show their limits. As long as she isn't biting (HARD) or hurting them, she is fine. They will yell if she hurts them. If you think she is getting too rough, just say, "gentle" and let them work it out among themselves. BTW.. she is a real dollbaby! |
