pad / grass training Chloe has been trained to use the pee pad inside...which has been relatively successful. My dilema is, that when taking walks around the neighborhood for exercise, she doesn't know how to / won't go potty! She waits until she's home, in the house, to go. Anyone able to "cross train" using both the pee pad and the grass? If so, how? Are they confused by this or just know there are two places to go? Did the "go potty" command work outside? |
We got Cody when he was 3 months old (he's 4-1/2 mo old now) and he was trained to go outside. We wanted to train him to use the potty patch and go outside too. We began working with him on the potty patch and he now uses both. |
We had that same issue with Charlie when he was about the same age. I do think he was confused by the potty pad vs. outside. So we started walking him right after he ate his dinner. We would just keep walking and eventually he just had to go potty. I still remember the first time he pottied on a walk. Our neighbors must've thought I was crazy because I literally jump up and down and cheered! Then we gave him a treat. THAT really caught on! Now he potties on everything on our walks (and then looks up for his treat -- my husband will say "Pay the man!"). It seemed to take a long time for Charlie too, but once he caught on, he had it down pat. I think it just sometimes takes a little longer, but we were able to cross traing on both grass and potty pads. |

It's so foreign to go for a walk and have the dog run IN the house to go potty! |
