Yorkie Biting My 10 week old yorkie bites a lot!! She has every toy under the sun :)!! Any suggestions? I tell her no bite when she bites us! Will she ever grow out of the biting phase? Thanks Melissa:animal36 |
WELCOME TO YT! Congrats on your new baby! One of the reasons many breeders recommend yorkie pups stay with mom until 12 weeks of age is for this very reason. You probably didn't know that, so now it's up to you to teach your pup bite inhibition. When your pup just touches you with her teeth, say No, or no bite, and stop all play. Give her no attention for her biting, attention is the reward in this case. Good luck! |
Thanks Thanks for the information! I'll do my best!! Melissa:animal36 |
It will take some time and patience. Be glad you do not have a Cane Corso Puppy that went thru that stage. It was brutal, for both of us. Our Yorkie was not so bad, but for her first year, when she heard the doorbell ring, and id she was standing next to you, she would chomp down on your ankle. I was very glad she was not 30" taller! Ahh this IS helpful! I have a 9 week old baby and he's teething real bad so he loves to bit and chew on my fingers...at first I allowed it because it didn't hurt me but then realized this is teaching him its ok to bite people. I'm going to start training him not to...I did get him a little plastic bone that's good for pups who are teething, hopefully that helps too :) |
You an also use a damp towel, a small one like a washcloth, roll it up and freeze it. Just like babies, it soothes the pups sore gums. Can you tell I learned a lot from YT? :) |
