Is she Peeing on Purpose?
 
I just found this yorkie almost 2 weeks ago. Up until recently, she never uses the restroom in my house. She is trained to go outside (we go about every 3-4hrs) and has no problems with such.

The past few days though, she's been having accidents on the floor. Today and Sunday, she used the restroom on my kitchen floor. Today, I was home when she did it. Sunday, I was gone (though I made sure she went right before I left) and she went to the potty then.

Is there a reason why she would start doing this all of a sudden now? Maybe I'm not being patient enough. I adore her, and I'm still learning all I can...thanks for any advice or suggestions.

You just found her a couple of weeks ago? Have you taken her to a vet? She may have a urinary tract infection or something that causes her to need to go more often. I'd want to rule out any physical issues that might be causing the problem first. Good luck!

HI Bonbon, thanks for the quick response. Yes, I have only had her for almost 2 weeks. I took her to the vet on Friday and she got a clean bill of health. I did tell the vet she drinks alot (at least in my opinion) of water. About 3-4C a day!

That sounds like a lot of water to me - but I'm just basing that on my experience with my pups. How big is she? Did the vet do any bloodwork? What did the vet say about her water intake?

The vet thinks she's approx 3y/o. She weighs 6lbs. The vet agreed that Molly does drink alot of water, she said just continue to watch her. She asks if she eats..I told her yes, but every day (I guess bc she's more comfy around me) she eats a little more everyday. She eats Solid Gold small kibble and she likes it ok.

When I took her to the vet, she just got a general checkup. I was advised to come back in 3-4 weeks (if the owner never came to claim her) to get her started on her shots-since she I found her, I dont have her shot records..

If she's still doing drinking that much, try to take a urine sample with you when you go back to the vet in a few weeks. And ask for bloodwork - that should identify if she has an infection or not. Thanks for taking such good care of this girl.

I also wanted to answer your original question: no, she isn't peeing on purpose. Dogs pee because they have to or sometimes to mark their territory but they're not capable of planning/plotting things like that. Maybe she's settling into your home and marking her new territory? If that's the case, hopefully some of the other more knowlegeable YT members can help you with that. I'd just rather make sure she's all well, too.

If she is that thirsty, I would have her checked for diabetes. No food after midnight, then they can do a blood draw the next morning.

She doesn't eat after 10pm and that's the very latest. Ok, i'll have diabetes added to the list for her next check up. Thanks!

eta: I re-named her Molly. She ignored that name for the first 3-4 days..now she answers to it. :D

It sounds like she has a urinary tract infection to me. Your vet needs to get a urine sample. And the only way to do that is via catheter. Trying to catch enough urine is near impossible. But if you don't have that treated right away it can turn into a kidney infection. Please have your vet check for that first.

You said you found the dog, did your vet check for a chip? I hope that you are putting up posters and ads and let the shelters know you have her so that her owner can be found.

Yorkies are always getting lost these days and they are stolen a lot as well.
I hope you find out what is going on and that her family is found. It sounds like she is in very good hands right now.

Hi, I need some help. I just bought my 5 months old Yorkshire last week, and he been having accidents inside of the crate after I put him to potty outside. He drinks and eats enough during the day. I put him to potty about 5 to 10 minutes nine times a day. I think he get distract with everything around him and forgot to potty. He was doing fine until two day ago. I tried to give more time to go, but doesn’t works. He went to the vet and he is okay. What I should do? Maybe is the schedule?

Yeah, tell me about it. I've called the shelters, checked for the chip (none), and posted on CL. I've gotten a few hits from there..but they aren't legit. I'm still keeping the faith though! :)

Do you actually go out with him and make sure he goes potty and poo? You should give him no more than 5 minutes to potty. And no play time until he does. If he does not go potty then you bring him in and put him in his crate for about 13 -20 minutes and take him out again. Do this until he goes, and then praise the heck out of him when he goes.

He really needs time to adjust to this new place and new people. He will get better, just be consistent:)

Well, thank heavens you found him and he is not out on the streets like so many other dogs. ;)
