Putting poo in mouth If I don't quickly pick up my Yorkie's poo from the potty pad, he will carry it in his mouth to other areas of the house. Anyone know why or what I can do to prevent this behavior? I try to watch him pretty carefully, but sometimes, I get busy and can't check his potty pad for a few minutes. :aimeeyork |
Is he eating it or just carrying it from one place to another? |
putting poo in mouth He doesn't seem to be eating it. He just carries it into different places throughout the house. |
Try adding a bit of pumpkin or pineapple to his food. Apparently, dogs don't like the taste of these once expelled. |

One day I was taking a shower and I got out and Pixie was not right there like she always is and sure enough it was not a pretty sight bc the tirds broke apart as she tossed them!!! needless to say my new steam vacume has gotten a lot of use!!!! |
The best way is to take away any opportunities for him to eat or play with his poop. I would not scold him but I would just distract him. I usually wait for my Teddy to go and when he turns around to show an interest in it, I just call him over and give him a toy, treat, whatever, as I clean it up. Sometimes he is faster than me, but it gets better with consistency. |

OMG my Taco does the same thing. He likes to "paint" with his poo. -__- please let me know if there's anything I can do short of ninja-snatching his poo. |
I know your dilemma. When Sky was around 3 - 4 months old had an issue with her eating her poo. Either it was because I wasn't paying attention to her, she was bored or I wasn't feeding her enough. So, I bought some of those pills at PetSmart. The pills are called with the exact name of the disease. it's a white container with a purple cap. However, she wouldn't eat the pills, but she would eat the poo! How ironic is that. Any hue, I had to smash up the pills with her puppy nutri-cal to get her to eat it. At the age of 5 mos old she stopped. Once she is done, she doesn't go near it anymore and I'm so thankful. Selena |
