Using Steps? I purchased steps for Cissy to use to get on/off the bed. I am able to get her to go "up" the steps but having a hard time with getting her to go "down". I can get her down a step and then she just jumps. What do you do to teach them to go "down"? Advice appreciated! I don't want to make her scared of the steps so I have stopped trying until I'm sure of how to teach her. |
Mine had a hard time with the going down too. Did you try treats? I have wood floors and the stairs slid a little so I put a rug under them and that helps a lot too. Maybe someone else will have the magic answer :) |
I don't have a magic answer, but Cooper too had trouble with going down the steps. My steps also slid around (even on carpet), so I build a heavy wood stand for it and nailed it to the stand. It became easier for him because he was more confident on it. While he was elevated on the bed, i put a treat on the highest step. Then, the second step. While on the second step I made him stay while i put a treat on the lowest step. Slowly but surely it started working. |
I put little treats on each step and helped Sydney walk down to each step eating a treat. Eventually, she was doing it on her own. It took a bit of training, but she got it. |
OK Thanks! We are doing the treat thing like each of you suggestioned. I will keep working at it, just thought there maybe a magic trick I was missing ;) thanks again |
