My 5 month old yorkie refuses to walk if I hold the leash She doesn't mind wearing her harness or dragging her leash around, but the second I pick it up, she'll plant her feet. Goodies and praises haven't worked. I also tried pulling her and no success. She'll walk for just a tiny bit while tied to my other Yorkie's leash so she thinks the other dog is walking her. The pack mentality hasn't worked either--she doesn't want to walk with the other 2 Yorkies that I have. She does follow me while she drags her leash, but it isn't safe because she runs out to greet any dog or person that she spots. Any suggestions?? |
I got Winnie to walk by stopping asking her to come and giving her a treat and praise. Then I would walk a little bit further and do the same thing. Now she is good to go but likes to walk behind me so I'm putting her on a short leash right next to me. |

I've had the same issue with Kasha (she's 4 1/2 months) usually puppies want to go in whatever direction you don't want them to go ... but she will just sit and wait until I pick her up or drop the leash. It could just be the death defying 98 degree weather but I don't know. I don't have any solutions but I wanted to commiserate. It always makes me feel better that there are other psycho babies out there. One thing that has helped about 60% of the time is a squeaky toy. Kasha likes to think she gets to play. |
