help I'm losing my mind My year old yorkie is pooing all over the house. He will pee on his pad, but he wont poo. I clean it up and spray with Natures Miracle, but he still does it. what do I do. Im losing my mind and Im afraid my husband will make me get rid of him if I can't get him to stop. :( |
Take him outside after he eats and stand or walk him until he poops, then praise him and give him a treat. You must catch him pooping for this to be effective, or he won't 'get it'. Confine him to a room with a tile floor whem inside if you can't keep an eye on him. Don't allow free run of the house until he has learned. |
Don't reprimand him at all if you see him going - - he may think "she doesn't want to see me go," and get really sneaky about pooping when you aren't looking. Keep him on a leash or in a crate if you can't watch him every second. Most dogs have some kind of signal that they have to go, really watch for his and be sure to praise, praise, praise, and treat when he does poop for you outside or on the pad. Keep him on a strick schedule for feeding and learn his habits. If he always poops after he eats (most dogs do), then really watch him after you feed him until he does. If he is afraid he might be punished if you see him going, you might have to take more time to wait him out, but he will go eventually. When he does, have a party and really reward and praise. The only way you are going to be able to get him to quit pooping anywhere but his pad or outside is if you really work at it and make a super human effort. I am sure you will get there, but it really depends on you. You can let him off the leash if he has recently gone, but be careful and be careful to not assume too soon that he is trained. Keep reinforcing him. Two of my dogs are 15 yr old girls and even at their age, I still praise them and occassionally treat when they potty outside. |
My boy did the same thing. He was about 1 or 1.5 y/o, and he would pee on the pad, but poop in hiding, like behind the couch  I taught mine using the word "go potty" for pee and "go pooh" for poop. I also give a yummy treat reward for good potty behavior. It really should not take long. If he already goes pee on the pad, next time he does pee PRAISE HIM, say good boy and give him a yummy treat (little piece of cheese may do the tick), once he starts to realize he will get a treat for doing pee on the pad, he will start to do poop on the pad too, because he wants a Yummy treat ;) |
