Puppy Kindergarten!! We had our first day today! Very excited to be doing clicker training as my terror seems to respond well! Anyone use this to help out with potty training on the pads? Or tips in general. I'm an obnoxious mom & want Kasha to be top of her class:-) |
I used that type of training with my Jack Russell and I never have to repeat myself to get her to do something. Sadly the woman who had the classes has moved and It's been more then 5 years since we went, so I have forgotten all the tricks. |
Clicker training is awesome! :thumbup: I actually technically just started using an actual clicker. Before, I would just use my voice and say 'yes!' when he did something right. I've found the clicker helps him learn faster what I want him to do... since the sound is way more consistent than a human voice. I bought one at Petsmart a few weeks ago for like .99 cents so it's worth it! lol. This is all he's learned with the basic method of clicker training at 1.5 years old. So I really love the positive/clicker training method when it comes to trick training!! |
I love clicker training. When I lived in Ohio, in the winter instead of walks, I'd put a baby gate at my bedroom door, and take each dog (five total) in there and use the clicker with the basics and some tricks. They absolutely loved it! One of the dogs would jump the baby gate, so she went into a crate. It was a wire cable baby gate and another of the dogs would grab the wires and pull like crazy at the gate. They couldn't wait for their turn. How great is that? Britster, you are awesome! You've done great with Jackson and he looks like he really enjoys working with you. Can't beat positive training methods! |
we love clicker training! All three of my dogs are clicker trained. I find this to be a great tool to use to teach new tricks too as well as reinforcing the tricks they know. I like to give them mental exercise with obedience training and they really love it. When the clicker is out, we have much more consistency in our results. It sometimes gets confusing with a multi dog household but we keep them separated when we are working with them. It's worked well for us, we've been doing clicker training since learning it when Barney and Daisy were pups. They never forget it if you do it correctly. :) |
Thanks guys! Love hearing how well it works. She's learning really well with it. Britster... I've seen Jackson's videos he's GREAT! Hopefully someday Kasha will be well trained like him! By the way, how big is he? |

Jackson is my big boy, he's 16lbs according to last vet visit, not overweight at all. He stayed at around 12lbs for a looongg time and I was shocked to hear when the scale read 16lbs... I think it's mostly muscle mass he gained because he never outgrew his coats, harnesses or collars. |
She's smart ... too smart for her own good. Escaped from her pen 3x before we figured out how! I'll have to post her tricks soon. Even sit looks cute when done by such a small little pup! Whew! Jackson is a big boy! ( Funny for me to say that as my Scottie, Frosty, is 24lbs) More room for brains! He looks like he's going to start selling tickets to the gun show ... or whatever the manly doggy version would be! |
