Barks When I Stand Up We adopted a 15 month old male yorkie a couple of weeks ago. If I'm sitting in my recliner he is fine. As soon as I make moves like I'm going to get up he starts freaking out and barking at me like crazy. Also, he barks at me whenever I come downstairs into our family room. If I've been in there for a few minutes he's fine, but if I go upstairs and come back down he'll start barking at me. I love my puppy and I don't want him to be frightened of me. I just don't know what to do to convince him I'm not a threat. I give him treats and cuddle him when I pick him up and talk sweetly to him, but he still goes bonkers and always seems frightened of me. Help! |

Pixie my 4 year old does this every time I get up and put on my slippers. I have not been able to break her of it. She goes crazy. I think she doesn't want me to leave. I got her at 13 months. None of my others do it. I tried the water spray bottle, the coins and the bark repeller and nothing works. Hope you can get some ideas. |
I'm pretty certain it's fear. He'll go to my wife and hop up on her lap, no problem. He won't do that with me at all. When I walk toward him he gets scared and backs out of the way. He makes a wide berth around me. So, it definitely feels like fear. |
I have one that does it every morning getting out of bed...nothing is quite in my house in the morning....once he starts he gets the rest of them barking.:( It is very difficult to try and correct this behavior..it easily could just be your size but who knows. Yorkies are very much a one person dog..unless that one person is gone and then they will jump on the next persons lap. Where did you get your little one from? Was it a rescue or purchased from a breeder? Do you know what kind of home he came out of? |
Sounds like he has a fear of men. You should try spending special time with him. Maybe give him special treats just from you, that no one else can give. You could also try calling him to you before you enter or exit a room, so he feels special and will learn to understand that all is ok. it can take time, but he will be worth it. |
I agree - some special treats only from you ought to go a long way. Also, maybe some extended one-on-one time together? You said that its only been a few weeks - probably best to nip this in the bud as soon as possible. My best advice is to contact the vet and ask for the name of a personal trainer. Good luck!!! |
