Resource guarding Any help would be appreciated. Milo only guards food or bones with other dogs. He allows me or any human to take anything right out of his mouth no problem, will even respond to drop it. Another dog is a whole nother situation, he growls and confronts, and lifts his lip (I can even stick my hand in his mouth and take it away from him while he is growling) I don't know what to do or how to correct him. 98 % of the time we are around other dogs there is no food or bone involved, and I am not sure if causing the situation to correct is is my best course of action. What would you do? |

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to what you are dealing with, but I do know other people on here have discussed this issue so I am hoping someone will respond. Your dog is a cutie! |
If I am reading it correctly he is only resouce guarding from dogs so either do not give anything guard worthy while other dogs are around or lock him up so he can have his good stuff in peace and calm. He has the right to have his stuff and not ahare just like you sometime do not want to share with others. Just do not give him anything or leave anything out that causes him to guard when other dogs are around. I have one little one that is a sweet heart and she never grrrr at anyone or anything but leave her with a bully stick and have another dog come in she is beside herself so we just stick it up or lock her up so she can enjoy in calm. We are talking so sweet she is a service dog and we only allow her her stick when she is on down time with me away fro her care for person so she can just be dog. JL |

Your little one sounds just like Milo, he is not a service dog but everyone loves him he is so sweet goes on play dates without me to play with kids. It's just the chew or food thing with dogs. I was hoping there was a way I could teach him to share. He was the runt of his littler and I think that he had to fight for his food being so small and that is where it stems from. Thank you for your response |
