Train to sit? Old dog New trick:) I rescued a little 5-7 yr old yorkie..age best guess from Vet...will I ever be able to teach him to sit, stay, and come. He is super smart I can see that from how fast he learned the house hold routine. Any suggestions are very very welcome |

Train him the same way you would a pup. Use the hand gestures, key words, and treat and praise. Good luck and let us know how it goes. |

This site has some great tips. Dog Tricks! Shake, Crawl, Beg, Kiss, Roll Over, Bow, and more! |
I just started clicker training with Mimi to sit, down, stay and come. It's working great. I give her the command to sit, then when she does I click and say good girl and give her a treat. I had to push her tush down the first few time, but now she has the hang of it. Now when she sees the clicker she gets excited. I got the book "Click and Train Your Dog" by Mary Ray. I like her method. Hope this helps a little. |
Roxie was 3 years old when I got her. We took a puppy training class at Petsmart for 8 weeks. We worked with her dilligently at home as well. She learned sit, down, stay, leave it, rollover, and a few other commands. I wasn't sure if it would work, since she wasn't a puppy, but it did! |
My Max (maltese/shih tzu) is 3 and is learning tricks, consistency and treats!! |
A goo start would be to start training the dog by "association". When he sit say SIT, when he come say COME . Best of luck and good job for rescuing. |
i am also starting training my puppy. although shes only 3 months old.. i've enrolled her to go to puppy training class at petsmart. and so far at home i've taught her how to sit. whenever she wants to get something (ie. food, toys) she would automatically sit. i am currently teaching her how to down its all about everyday training & rewards .. its hard though :( |
