Covering up his business ???
 

Hi... I need some help...

My little boy Milo:aimeeyork is just starting with training pads and doing good... sometimes ;)... the only thing is after he does his business he tries (well does) cover it up with his training pad... then if he has to go again, the pad does not soak it up because he has flipped it over... what can I do??

You could try using a pad holder or just tape the pad down...

Thank you! and yes I saw other posts and looked up the pad holders but he really doesn't move the ones outside of the cage.... only the ones in his cage at night where i fold the pad in half... i'm going to try tape ... just dont want him to try lifting it and get his lil hairs stuck :confused:... he never moved it before just now

Are you using disposable pads? I found that mine liked to drag those around and tear them up but they are fine with the washable ones. Maybe you could try that?

Maybe taking him outside once at night to do his business then put him back in his cage.

It's probably not a good idea to encourage your puppy to mess in his crate. His crate is where he sleeps. Perhaps you can do what has been suggested and let him go potty once just before you go to bed and then first thing in the morning.

Yes I agree with this. How old is your dog? Every dog is born with an urge not to pee what he sleeps, he's trying to cover up his pee. If you have a young puppy, you need to take him out every few hours to pee, just place him on a pee pad, once or twice during the nighttime. Most trainers say to keep in a small crate so that he won't be even tempted to pee, but you don't want to do this before 12 weeks. Some breeders keep younger puppies in a large x-pen and have several pads and the sleeping area is far enough a way, that they don't think they are peeing where they are sleeping. What you are doing, could affect his latter ability to potty train successfully.

Milo is just 3 months old...

I feel horrible because I do want him to learn to potty train... it's just I take him outside during days and nights but he just stands by my feet.. I put him on the grass or by a tree n just step away and he crawls back to me...

once a bee came around and he heard the buzzing and just started crying and crying for me to pick him up (since my sister is allergic I did and went inside)

We've only had him for a week and he has NEVER done his business outside... likes to walk but just doesn't go

I keep a pee pad (disposable---will have to check for washables) because the cage is pretty big for him (medium sized) and just in case for him to go on at night or when I'm at work...those are the only times he's in the cage

Should I make the crate smaller and take the pee pads out?
He has a pee pad in a separate section of the house just in case he gets an urge which he is getting used to... Just today he kind of missed the mark and pee'd on the "nonsoaking" corner of the pad... it was funny and he tried :D

Please don't feel bad, these things are something we innately know, and your dog at 12 weeks now just ready to start training. In order to crate train, the crate must be no bigger than the space a dog needs to stand up and turn around in. If the crate is bigger than that, some people partition them off with shoeboxes or something like that. I used Joey's car seat as a crate during the crate training time, and I kept it next to my bed at night, and at 12 weeks, I needed to get up with him twice, but I could hear him easily when he needed to get up. I would place him on a pad, I kept in the bathroom and after he went he got a cheerio, and back in his crate. During the day, I kept him in a large pen, with a pee pad, but you can also use the crate in the day, taking them out every couple of hours, if they don't pee on the pad, they are placed back in the crate for another hour. When they are not confined a pad should never be too far from them. They will go on a pad, but they will not travel very far to seek it out. They should be watched with two eyes when they are out of the crate, and if they start circling they should be placed on pad. okay thank you soo much and yes I will use the same crate for the night and block it off :D

I have tried to keep him in the crate during the day but he just cries and climbs on it...chews on it... barks (his little bark :D).... he just does not like it even if i'm home... and i have several pads out ... he has been going on the pad in the bathroom lately but has many accidents at night... even if there's a pad close by he'll try to go when im not looking but always gets caught....

I have a long way to go but thank you... I need to follow thru so he can learn ... he's just too cute ...

do you know if it is too early to take him to a dog walk? I have one sunday i had agreed on taking another dog but I don't know if I should take him yet to walk... my neice really wants to take him though

My vet said to wait for two weeks after his last shots before they are around any other dog's germs. Make sure there's blankets in the cage so that if he pees, he's not lying on a damp floor, he could catch a cold.
