Need help Potty training my recently adopted baby. Hi Everyone, I Usually don't post I'm more of a lurker but I need insight on how to train a Yorkie I adopted recently. I've always had dogs when they were puppy so I felt it was much easier to train them because I'm starting from a clean slate. I recently took Kobe in and he's a 2 year old yorkie that must have been raised in a city environment and he isn't used to peeing/pooping outside. When I take him outside onto the grass, he freezes. He doesn't know what it is lol. He'll hold it in until I bring him back in and he'll pee in the house. Is there anything I can do to help him adjust to using the bathroom outside? I know it's not going to happen overnight and I will give him all the time he needs but I don't know how I'll get him to understand to use the grass as his bathroom. |
I am having that problem with a puppy we got when he was 9 weeks old. I take him outside every 2 hours like all the training things tell me to do, but nothing... he just won't go outside. He walks in the door and as soon as I take off his harness he goes. He has never had a #2 outside at all. So I feel your frustration. I hope we can both find answers to this question. |

My other yorkie sometimes has accidents in the house but he gets really upset with himself, I see it on his face lol. So he knows whats right and whats wrong. but it's different with Kobe, he doesnt think it's wrong and I don't know what to do! ahh |
Bailey is the same way... he doesn't think its wrong. But I talked to a vet and they said since I got him during a cold MO winter and he wasn't used to outside no using the grass outside that it would take much longer to get used to it. His recommendation to me was to wait until he was 5 months old and really start training him on it. He would be better at knowing what was right and wrong. I don't know if you have heard anything like this before? But Bailey even goes in his crate... that I have never seen with a dog before. |
