Do different brands of pee pad make a difference? I just got my baby on Saturday. She is 8 weeks old. I went to petsmart and got the brand called, simple solutions. I bought a huge pack. I don't know if different brands of pee pads help a yorkie potty train better? What brand of pee pads works best for your yorkie? |
Congrates on the baby! 8 weeks old is very young! The pad does not do the training, you do. Every hour or so take Yuna to the pad, and keep her there until she pees (or goes to sleep, making it clear she does not need to). Training will be slow, but the brand of pad should make no difference. Whatever routine you create, will be normal for her. Good luck! |
Thank you for replying! =) |
I used Simple Solution when I was first house breaking Sydney. It came with a guarantee that if you used their pad the way the directions said, your dog would be trained. As YorkieJunkie said, you have to do the work, but Simple Solution is a great tool. |
Oh! I didn't realize there were directions on their website even though it says on the packaging. I should make it a habit to read these things! Thanks! |
I really believe that Nature's Miracle pads made a difference for Thor's training. He certainly sniffs them like crazy. I can't tell the difference myself, but they are supposed to be grass-scented. |
some pads are scented which may help with the initial training... after that though you just want to look for a good quality pad to prevent leaking... I was using Simple Solutions pads for a long time and they were very good... but once I joined this site, I heard about Ryan, a member here who sells pads and they were much much cheaper and the quality is just as good, so I started ordering from him instead. |

The best pads I've found are also very reasonable--Hartz pads that I pick up at Walgreens. They are $10 for a pack of fifty. They soak up better than any of the pads that I spent three times more for at Pet Smart or Petco. |
Lots of us use washables as well, and some of us sell them too :) |
I use the Arm & Hammer puppy pads from Target. I love how they smell....kind of like baby powder and they are really thin so they are easy to pack for travel. |

I do not like Simple solutions...they are weak, leak and smell like urine once used. Nature's Miracle is okay but still thin and the edges had run off leaking. The best potty pad I have found is Gridlock Puppy Training Wee Wee Pads...sold thru Amazon...FANTASTIC!!! They are thick, made very well and DO NOT leak or have run off! They DO NOT allow the urine to smell in the home! :D They hold plenty of fluid and Cerise continues to use them over and over (about three or more days a pad) until there isn't much clear space then I change them. I really want to try and use washable pads for eco purposes but these have me hooked right now. |
For a puppy, any pads will do the job, some are just scented to attract them. But all of them require you to do the training :) There is a spray you can buy at petsmart that you spray on the pad (smells like doggy urine) that will get them interested. I highly recommend washable pads, there are sellers here that sell them. I have had the same ones for a looong time that I bought from Lil'bit and they are still going strong!! If you are going to transition to outside potty only, then probably wouldn't want them. |
I think you can find cheaper ones at walmart, target, or even walgreens. Tobey has been using potty pads for about 3 years now and I haven't noticed a difference with brands. OUT! is a brand that is usually pretty reasonably priced. usually around $12 for 50 pads. I have gotten that brand at both Target and Walmart. But as others have said, you have to do the work. I crate trained Tobey and then when i was at work would gate him in the kitchen. He usually chose to use the potty pads over the hard kitchen floor. A lot of people might tell you that 8 weeks is too young. Don't let it get to you. There is nothing you can do now that you already have her. I got Tobey at 8 weeks- didn't know any better- and he has turned out just fine. Good Luck! all the hard work will pay off! |
