Has anyone sent their Yorkie to Doggy Bootcamp I am having a terrible time walking my 2 girls and an even worse time with them barking at other dogs. As a last resort I am thinking of sending them to doggy bootcamp. Has anyone had any experience with a bootcamp before? Or do you know any pros and cons. It is very expensive but they will be there for about a month - conveniently for me it will be during the time I will be taking my vacation in Europe. Thanks |
Well.... I've never done doggy bootcamp but the main problem I would see with it, is that they are learning the rules from someone else and in another place. So, I could see them reverting back to their old ways once they are back at home. I think you would benefit more from working with a trainer in your own home. This way you learn how to correct their behavior and can be consistent with it. |
I've tried trainers before and it hasn't helped. Also, I work all day so it's kind of hard. The bootcamp has a lifetime guarantee. If they ever revert back on any of the problems you contracted with them to correct,you can contact them and they will help you correct the problem at no further charges. They also spend 4 hrs with us in our home upon completion to teach us how to continue to get the same results. Any they will be an ongoing training support. |

Besides the concern articulated by others. I always worry when someone is training my dog without me being there... how do you know what they are doing? They could easily stick a choke collar on your dog, use harsh leash corrections, etc. All things that can lead to physical and psychological problems for your yorkie. I think it would be better to find someone to work with you in your home, just remember that they are teaching you to train your dog and most of the work falls to you in being consistent with the methods they show you! |
I guess it's like sending your kid to boot camp. If the kid comes back perfect I'd have to wonder what the hell they did to my kid to accomplish this. |

This trainer, I spoke to on the phone said things that made me think she has seen HIM! So I believe her, when she says she can help! I'll post after our first "date", this weekend... I think doggie boot camp could be scary from some of the things I've heard. If you are not there - you have no idea if they are using positive or negative training; choke collars; prong collars; punishment . . . I had a friend send their first dog to one for a month but said they would never do it again. When they got a 2nd dog; it did NOT go to doggie boot camp. It just wasn't that effective once the dog got home. |
I would defenatly NOT do it, give my baby to someone else, its hard enough when he goes to his house sitter for one night whilst we are away and thats a sinking feeling, but everyone one else on here is correct, what sort of harsh training are they gonna receive and they will be in kennels, not a loving home! |
OK thanks and I changed my mind. I am having a local trainer come to my home on Ssturday instead. |
