Kitchen or Playpen?? I am trying to decide if I should put DJ in the kitchen during the day when I am at work or in his playpen?? I dont know which one is better for him and also as far as training goes. I inclose with kitchen with a gate and put puppy pad food/water and kennel and toys...same goes for the playpen its just alot smaller area. do you think it would be better to put him in kitchen or playpen?? |
I always left my pups in crates when they were babies, then they stayed in the kitchen gated in when they were older. Teddy, age 16 months, still is crated during the day because he is very immature and is a gate-jumper. |
I would say kitchen. I think that would lead to less anxiety issues. He would still feel like he is in the house- just in a smaller area. This will also give him an area to pee/poop. I think with the play pen he might be hesitant to use the pad because it will be in such close proximity to where he would lay down. |
I think I read that he was 6 weeks old? I would recommend a SAFE expen. the kitchen would be too big for a young little pup. He needs to feel secure. IF he is that young I would recommend a cozy bed, his pee pads, nutrical before you leave him, food , water, stuffed animals to make him feel safe. How long will he be alone? |

Depends... How big is the kitchen area that he'd be in? How big is the playpen? And what is it made of? Mine never stayed in a crate. We used the xpen in our living room (tile floors). We had their bed, potty pads, food/water and toys in there for them. As they got a little older we took the xpen out of the living room and gated it off so that they didn't have access to the rest of the house. The next step was to add the kitchen within the gated area. Of course we continued to open it up as they got older and better at potty training. We never has a problem with chewing furniture or walls. We still close the doors to the bathrooms when we leave - I just don't want them to possibly lick the area around the tub/shower/toilet that may have residue from cleaning products - even though I'm very careful about it. |
Well at 6 weeks this baby should still be with hit mom, and for another 6 weeks. You should never leave a really young puppy alone like that when you work. It needs to eat a tiny bit every three hours. I wouldn't even consider getting a puppy otherwise, unless you have someone who is home all the time, take care of it for you. |
