Fine at home, pees all over girlfreind's house Ruger is finally, for the most part, housebroken at my place. One day he even brought me his leash -- yea! Unfortunately, when he's at my girlfriend's house he pees and poops all over the place. She has an 8 yearl old Westie, and Ruger is very dominate towards him, but they get along for the mostpart. She has a fenced in front yard, so we just open the door at times and let both dogs out, but often Ruger will run back inside and go for the food bowl. I will admit that at my place I can keep an eye on Ruger pretty much all the time, but her house is three floors, and most of the pee winds up on the tile just inside the front door. Could the Westie be the problem? And what can we do to solve it? |
Have you ever heard of a belly band. They would definitely be worth a try. There are several YT'ers that sell them. Good Luck! |
Is Ruger neutered? Is he legitimately peeing or marking? I personally wouldn't recommend belly bands because that doesn't really potty train them. They're usually only used for unaltered stud dogs. If possible, could you block off all floors except the main one? So you can keep a better eye on him? He probably just needs to be trained at your girlfriends house, as he was at your place. I had a similar issue when Jackson was a pup... when we visited over my dad's house, they had a fenced in yard where we just let the dogs out. Plus, my dad's house was like the "fun-get-away-with-everything" house (my dad spoils him!) plus most of the time when he went outside (as a puppy) he would just go out and play and forget to go potty. I had to physically go outside with him (sometimes on a leash) make sure he peed/pooped and then praise and treat, THEN allow him off leash. It took him until he was around 6 months old to get it over there. Now he's 100% potty trained over there. I still call him 99.9% potty trained over at our regular house only because sometimes he will sneak off and poop (it's a bigger house) if we're not paying attention to him, or if it's raining outside. But it only happens once every few months now. |
