Ripping up the Training Pads Hi everyone, I have a yorkie that just turned one today. During the day when I'm at work I have him set up in part of my room with the guard rails up so he won't get out. Brunio has his bed food, water and toys. But now I realize he is ripping up the training pads. I thought it was becasue if I ran late from work and he was upset. Now I see that he is doing it even if he's out he still goes and rips it up. Please help I don't know what to do!!!!! |
well i think most of us have been there...lol...what i found to have help me was switch the pee pads from the normal ones to the disposable quilted ones...you can get the quilted ones from Walgreen or Big Lots...they sell them in a 50pk for $10. Some members also switch to the washable ones...me myself have tried those...and i personally do not like to do extra loads of laundry so i ended up tossing them out...hehe |
We all have been there :) Washable pads may be a solution or a puppy pad holder to hold the pad in place.... |

Teddy is 15 months old and he still shreds 'em. That is why we started our company. We offer decorative washables. |
Oh, and you need to use the 23x24 size in the pad holders. I find the fir perfect. I also buy irregulars sometimes from eBay or a couple other people here: Pee Pads For Cheap - Great For Puppy Potty Training http://www.newpuppypads.com And the only place (haven't found a better deal)I buy cloth pads from I get here: Used Waterproof Pads I buy them used only and I even get stained ones, I don't care..lol.. I do have ones with no stains for in front of the doors because I cannot have rugs or they get peed on. So the pads work great for a wipe mat or a pee pad;) They have new ones too Whelping Boxes, Supplies, and Training Pads. Purchase directly at EZwhelp.com |
I found these pad holders (for a poster on another thread) on Amazon, free shipping, different sizes, they are the type Reno's breeder uses. We don't have the ripping pad problem here so I've never had to use them. |

Thank you :) I think they are cute too. I'm sorry you could not find the material information on my site. It is there in various places including the pee pad page itself. They are topped with 100% cotton fabrics, I have over 150 fabrics currently to choose from, and they have inner absorbent cotton layers and a leakproof backing. I use one pad for three yorkies every day. I have only hardwood floors and tile in my home and there is never any leakage. They are $19.99 but with the YT discount of 20% come to $16 for YT'ers. I personally could not stand to look at white ones. And I could not stand the ones that did not lie flat on the floor. Our story is here About Our Company - doggiepeepads.com & T. Bumpkins & Co. PS my mom had me make her some as front door wipe rugs like you have - she picked my fabric called tribal elements as it matched her living room. I should mention she does not have dogs!! LOL Thanks so much for looking :) Hugs, Cathy |
thank you for your responces, becasue I'm tired of having to vacum and clean up those dame pads. I'm going to try the dispoable quilted ones. |

...certainly DO NOT miss though days ;) I like others went to the washable pads. I actually used the Purina Doggie Litter Box at that time, so the pad went inside the box. My problem with the washable pads were the pee never really dried, so when I was at work and they were left home all day, their feet and my floor had pee prints all over the place. So that is why I am use the potty patch (dog turf) ontop of the throw away pee pee pads now, this way their paws stay dry and my floors are pee free  |

my 5 month old just started doing this...its frustrating to come home and see that it's winter wonderland in her pen. lol. she never used to do this until about 2 weeks ago. i bought a wee wee pad holder from petsmart which i thought would help but she'd still tear up the pad. so i decided to just tape down the pad and see what happens and it's the same result. are there other solutions besides washable pee pads? what can i do? |
Different stuff inside different brands. So you may try another brand? Maybe? Not sure what you are leaving her to play w/ but you may step that up? There are times with throw-away pads when anytime they're left alone it seems like they destroy them. So it's all a gamble. But maybe just the smaller pad? You don't have to switch completely & use a washable underneath. This is another good choice that works for me. I prefer to throw them away. But I don't like them being moved. Having a stationary one below helps with many things. JMO. Ryan here on YT sells both. The throw-aways are so cheap. It's easy to rid them as often as needed. Great quality & shipping. Don't forget, she's a toddler. Just finding her way. LOL |
I have been there with my dog Stella...am still there actually. I have tried everything. I have gotten the holder and she just shredded the middle. I have tried fooey and bitter apple with no luck. I have tried tape and different brands. All shredded. I finally went to washable and REALLY I did everything I could to avoid it. But I got over having to do extra laundry and to put (horror) pee in my washer. It has made things easier as my clean up is less. BUT she still tries to shred them so I come home to bites taken out of them. They are expensive ones and very heavy duty but she still manages to take them apart. But it is better than the disposable. I can not find a solution that I am happy with and hope she outgrows this. Though she is almost 11 months and still doing it. haha. Good luck!! Hope you find a good solution. |
They are such little stinkers!! Every now and then my Biscuit would shred a pad...and now so does Trixie. I switched to a quilted disposable pad..it seems to help. Good luck :animal-pa |

Oh my goodness, same issue exactly!!! I just gave up. Since I don't catch her doing it I can't scold her after the fact, can I??? I know that rule applies with small kids but not sure how that works with puppies...lol |
I switched to wahsable pee pads for a while, now we are back on the disposable. They do outgrow it and I found the quilted disposable pads simple solutions at pet smart are harder to tear up!! lol |

OMG i thought i was the only one with a rebel child! lolz My Chloe does this too but one day i started taping the edges AND putting tape ON the white part of the pad and she's stop doing it.... for now!! lolz  |
pee-pee pad terrorist I know what you are going through. We have a 4mo yorkie, Koko, and she does the same thing. We started off with towels but got sick of having to wash them daily. We now use the pads which she tears into bits n pcs. We've tried different brands and same results. There's days when she'll be good (and those days we can count in 1 hand...lol). We've tried leaving her more toys so she's occupied with those instead of the pads. This is our 2nd yorkie pup....our other 1 is 7yo now, Kiwi, but don't quite remember when she weaned off of it. She was the same but not as bad as a puppy. Completely opposite personalities! Geez! Well, if anyone else comes up with any other ideas, we'd love to hear it too. Good luck! |
I am having the same exact problem with my 17 week old yorkie. She used to be good about leaving these pads alone. Started tearing them up a few weeks ago so I bought a pad holder. Still manages to tear it up! I have bought washable pads also. But she is trying to tear these up also. I worry about her ingesting paper or fabric fibers. I am trying hard to get her trained so we can only use the pad when ever I am not at home. When she starts to tear these up, she has suddenly decided to pee outside of the pee pad! Little stinker! LOL!!! I have given her toys and things to play with when she is in her XT play yard. I think this is just her way of "rebelling" when I put her in the play yard and not having her next to me 24/7! |
