In need of some help. Ok here is the scoop. I bought my girlfriend a Yorkie (Trigger) a couple of weeks ago, I think they are wonderful looking dogs. The only problem that we have is he uses the restroom everywhere, we have time and time again put him on the puppy pad when its too cold for him, but now that is it starting to warm out I have been bringing him outside, none of this seems to be working. What should we do? |
I like this site: Free House Training for Puppies and Adult Dogs - No More Accidents Starting Today!, it has a method for outside or pee pads. When Joey was young we kept him in an x-pen with several pads in it, he didn't have access to the whole house. If he was out of the pen, there was a pad close by, and when he started walking in circles and sniffing we put him on the pad. He slept in a small crate overnight and we put him on a pad in the middle of the night, and first thing in the morning, we'd take him outside. Crate training is the fastest way, they are in a small crate for 2 hours and then you take them outside, let them go potty and give them a treat, you play with them for several minutes and repeat. They can hold their urine a little longer at night about 3 or 4 hours. Small breeds are more difficult to train than larger breeds, but you never let them have full rein of the house. When they are out of the x-pens or kennels, your eyes should be on them. |
I realize your dilemma but considering that you've only had him a couple of weeks you should be careful that you don't make things bad. I'd wait until he's older to expect anything different. Take him directly outside when you come in, take him out etc. Praise him when he potties. Same for the pad. |
I literally have had my eyes on Lucy 24/7 (except during night time when I'm sleeping) since the day I brought her home. Even at night I get up every hour or so and make sure she's sound asleep and doesn't need to go out. If she does need to go out and I'm not awake, she kisses me until I wake up. LOL In the week and a half I've had her, she has had two pee accidents. I'm really proud of her but it is HARD work on my end. I'm fortunate enough that I can do my work from home or can take her with me anywhere I go. I've just come to realize that it's JUST like having a baby and teaching it the same things. It's not going to be easy no matter which option you go ... however, the reward in the end will be totally worth it!!!!! Don't give up yet!! :heart toKandi |
Thanks for all of your knowledge, I will take it in with gratitude. |
