Give it up for Buddy/training going great. As some of you know I hired a trainer for Buddy. I thought I understood guarding issues, which I did but the trainer just took me a bit farther in understanding why it's happening. Since we can't train not to guard but to think why he does so and prevent it in the first place, things are just so much more relaxing for both of us. So, we started on another issue he has, big dogs. After 5 yrs of wanting a piece of every big dog he sees( out of fear based) he walked passed three over the weekend without even a growl and actually made friends with two sister's who he's been fearful of for several years.:bravo:He has pulled me like a sled for years. I tried everything but maybe it's my attitude or his that somehow changed with the proper guidance but we are walking side by side now daily and enjoying every minute of it. I always have to be aware of larger dogs approaching and walk on the oppisite side but he does not do "His Thing" as much so we are both learning. Two more private classes and I plan on joining her sessions with other dogs at her facility. Buddy loves to work and train so train he will do. I am so pleased with our progress I wanted to share. |
I'm very impressed with everything so far. It will be easier for you, too, as you get older, because he won't be tugging and making it harder for you. That was such a smart idea of yours and one that will make life better for both of you. Bravo is right!:D |
that is great that it's going so well. You must be so happy. :) |
really pleased to hear things are going well with the training..keep up the good work. |
GO BUDDY! That is totally awesome and it seems the training was worth it! I love hearing positive outcomes. As Cesar would say: stay calm & assertive! ;) |

Thank you so much. Yes, it certainly was worth getting involved. We're both learning and having fun doing so. |

My man Cesar, if it weren't for him I would have not gotten this far alone. Like raising kids, it's not always easy to be calm and assertive but yes in the end it certainly pay's off:p Seriously it was worth it. Bringing in a pro was the icing on the cake for us. Now for sure we can't go anywhere but forward. Education is key to success in both human and canine;) |
Good job, Buddy! Keep up the good work. Very proud of you! |
Carol, it sounds like both you and Buddy get gold stars and huge pats on the back for a job well done! Keep up the good work!!!! |
YEAH! Buddy you go boy. Carol, I knew he would get better since you were so dedicated to making it work. Now he can get prepared for the girl you will get when you retire....:D Jeri |
That's great! How did you find your trainer, btw? |

I did a search in my area and three came up. One I had to travel, the second was recouperating from surgery, couldn't afford him anyhow, $295.00 hr:eek: and the third was my favorite anyhow. They train on site, give group sessions and private sessions in both behavorial and canine coaching in every aspect. Private sessions were 90.00 hr., group range from 200.00 for six wks to 300.00 for 4 wks. Depends on the sessions. Both are women and came highly recommended. I called my vet also and he knew both and said they were good. So I made the call and am very happy I finally did it. I would have saved myself lot's of time and energy if I had done this sooner. Sometimes the short cut takes longer:p |
Gold Stars all around!! :star::star::star: and :coolsmile from Gunnar |
Aw you must be so proud of your little guy. Way to go Buddy!!!! :bravo: |
