I would say "yes" because you should never say never. It's much easier to train a puppy than an older dog. Is it totally impossible you would move? Also, you might want to walk with your yorkie on a leash around your farmland. I don't see anything bad about training her on a leash:) | Totally agree!
I live on 3 acres of land backing up to 90 acres of farmland. We still use the leash all the time.
For one thing, dogs are pack animals. I think it's very important to get that one-on-one time with your dog walking in a "pack" if you will. Running around 3 acres (or any backyard) is still not as much exercise (mentally, moreso) as taking a 45 minute walk on-leash. Dogs love it once they learn! I actually drive to a neighborhood up the road to walk Jackson on the sidewalks since we don't have any.
My mom's dog that lived with us was always a "free dog" NEVER on leash and she was still overweight and had other issues. She also got hit by a car in a total freak accident because she was never leashed.
I also want to add that you will have to take your dog to the vet at least yearly, and they will be required to be on leash. |
