Yorkshire Peeing Problems
 

I have a male Yorkie, 8.5 years old. He is a rescue dog and is blind (cataracts). There are two other dogs in the house - a female Yorkie who is 5 and a Westie- Pomeranian cross who is 11. The male Yorkie has been with us for about 6 months and urinates throughout the house, although he has certain areas that he prefers.

It is very frequent and although he gets regular walks, he continues to urinate inside. I thought this might be related to some behavioral pattern with his previous owner OR some kind of adjustment response to his new surroundings and the other two dogs. I tried to condition him to urinate on a pad in a specific location. This met with mixed results. I have now resorted to diapers, which he makes good use of.

He does however seem to drink more than the other dogs, and combined with the excessive urination, I am wondering if there could be some kind of underlying pathology - diabetes? I have decided to take him to the vet to have a look at this possibility. Is diabetes common in small dogs? Are there some good reference materials on-line that you know of? Meanwhile, is there any advice you might have on how to manage the frequent urination issue, assuming it is not related to some other physiological issue?

Unfortunately I do not have the answers for you, But I am sure you'll get some great answers from some very knowledgeable folks on here. But I just wanted to say I think that what your doing is awesome! And bless you for being such a great person. Your new Yorkie is so lucky to have found such a great home.:)

Has he been neutered love? Sometimes un-neutered males will mark like this.
