We are 3mo's now, is it too early to switch to outside potty breaks? Gizmo is finally 3months and 5 days today but I wanted to know if it is too early for me to start the transition to outside potty breaks. Of course when I am gone he needs to still be able to use the pee pads inside but I want him to get accustomed to going outside when we are home.. Do you think it will confuse him right now??? |
I would think it would be fine, he'll learn when your home,, go outside,,when you're not go inside ( on pad) Bailey went outside since he was 10 wks old,, I didn't even want him to associate inside with peeing or pooping.. But ,I had it easy since I can take him to work with me,,which really made it easy. |
I have heard of puppies rushing into the house to go potty on their pee pee pad  but I think sooner or later they figure it out. |
I trained Muffin and now Kacee to use pads and then transitioned to outside. She rings the bell to go out. Never fails. However, if we can't get to the door or we are gone, she will go use the pad and that is the only time she will use the pad. I won't take her outside at night or in rain or other bad weather, so I have pads in the attached garage :D (I know) and so at night when she goes to ring the bell I just ask her if she wants to go out in the garage and she follows me to that door. It worked great with Muffin and I couldn't see why another genius yorkie couldn't learn that way. ;) So far it has worked out fine. Kacee is now 6 months old. No accidents in three months, but then again there is always someone home with her during the day, too. Wishing you luck... |
Personally, I think if you want to train him to go outside, the sooner you start, the better! |
Thanks guys! I very much appreciate all of your help in this transisitioning stage! I will try all of your advice and keep you posted. |
