6 month old female "bite playing/bite loving"
 

We've had Cookie since she was 8 weeks old. She's now 6 months. Since day 1 we've told her over & over & over & over & over.... "NO!" NO BITING!!" We've tried sour apple spray on our hands, we've tried the yelpping thing when she puts teeth to skin, we've done the "NO BITING" and putting her away in her room thing... she's still the same, in fact maybe even worse. Now when we come home and she's excited to see us, she licks AND bites/nibbles on our hands. We can't even pet her without her trying to bite on our hands/fingers!

I don't know what to do. We would love to be able to pet and play with her, just for once without her BITING!!! Its so frustrating, we say NO, NO BITING in a firm voice, but she has never grasped it, even with all the tactics we've tried. I've even tried the whole... mother dog thing where, if she bit me or started, I grabbed her scruff, spanked her bottom and put her in her room. 15 mins later I let her out, she's happy and starts biting :mad:.

She has ALL her adult teeth in now, so when she bites, IT HURTS! :( Someone, anyone... any advice :confused:??? I'm at wits end. Sometimes I feel like putting a muzzle on her cause I don't want one day for her to bite our 5 year old on the hand or face!

In my case, baby teeth did more damage than adult teeth. Those baby fangs are like needles!

I strongly suggest not grabbing, spanking, yelping, or putting away in a room. Your frustration is understandable, but negative and excited energy is only going to put your dog into an excited state in which she cannot understand what it is you are trying to communicate to her.

6 months -- she is still growing those teeth. Give her plenty of chew toys. If she starts nipping at you, remove your hands, replace with a chew toy. Or, fold your arms and hands against your chest and say "No bite" firmly, but not angrily or excitedly. As Cesar Milan would say, be "calm assertive."

Put those chew toys in front of her mouth and be calm and in control. :)

Mine did the same thing, but when she was about a year old she finally stopped, now she licks all the time, it's so hard to pet her.

I had one that did that. I simply said "ouch" in a loud tone every time it happened....it would startle her and she would stop and look at me. She would do it again and I would just repeat the "ouch" over and over. Every time she licked me I praised her! I had to do this MANY times before she got it.

Training a puppy takes a LOT of patience....repetition and patience! Good luck!

Maybe for something else to try my dad always broke this habbit raising dogs by when they bit he would grab their bottom jaw by putting his thum under their tounge and not letting go until they started to be submisive or whine... they dont like it and cant bite you when your holding their mouth this way... he always said that it didnt hurt them it was just uncomfortable... he did thid everytime they bit and eventually wouldnt do it because they learned that when they bit it would be uncofortable for them also... it worked for him every time.... he always would raise big dogs so their bitting as a puppy was not acceptable so he fixed this fast this way... (most of the time within a month) good luck
