My PeePee pad trained puppy is now peeing on the carpet Hi everyone, I am new to the board and I hope someone can help me. I have a 8 month old little girl that has been very good using the PeePee pads until recently. When she goes potty on the pad I always give her treats and reward her. Seemed to work great then a couple of weeks ago she started peeing on the carpet IN FRONT of the pad. She will literally be 2 feet away from the pad and go on the carpet. I am not sure what to do. Sometimes she will use the pad and sometimes she wont its very inconsistant. Any advise woukld be greatly appreciated. |
Can you remove the carpet? If you can, so just take it away, if you cant, then just put a towel or a blanket on the carpet. The scent on the carpet is driving her to do that. :coffee_n_ |
Whether your goal is to continue using pads or go outside, either way you will have to rid the accident spots of the urine scent. As Guliverandmaya wrote, the scent is attracting your dog to return to those spots. Some people advocate using an enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle, other people have had success with a white vinegar/hot water solution. Once you have the carpet cleaned, keep a close eye on your dog and try to move her to the pad if you see her miss again. It could be that she slightly missed the pad the first time and then the scent just kept spreading wider and wider. |
Thanks for the info :) I just cleaned all of my carpets about 2 weeks ago thinking the same thing but she is still doing it. I defnitely went over the "problem" areas at least 3 times with the machine to get as much of the smell out as possible. Do you think it could still be an issue even after the carpets are cleaned with a big machine? I also use my spot bot on the new spots that she pees in now. |

from my expereince cleaing wont help... This is why I offered to put a towel on it. I did it with Guliver and it helped. |
My dogs won't use the pad unless it's clean :rolleyes: so if they have used it two or three times and we don't notice quick enough the floor around the pad becomes their new potty. I'm thinking of investing in the reusable pads or maybe getting the b/f to take the dogs outside (he won't let me he says they will get sick and die I think sometimes he's worse than me!) |

I invested in reusable ones for this same reason. My Bailey wont potty on a dirty pee pad and on top of that if she poop on it just once she needs a new pad or will not return on it wether it is clean or not... silly dogs but so worth it. :p |
I am having the same issue with my 5 month old pup, except her pee pad is not on the rug. The rug is about 5 feet away...any suggestions |
