Yorkie eating poop! GRR How do I stop my yorkie from eating his own poop?! I leave him in his little play area in the morning with a puppy pad and he potty's on it just fine and i'm sure poops on it just fine too, but by the time I get back home in the afternoon from work i have a mess to clean. He has tore up his poop and it's alllllll over my floor. How do I get him to stop doing this? |
My personal opinion on this would be to crate him so that he doesn't have the opportunity to poop while you're away, or at least he won't want to poop in the crate. No dog wants to soil their own "sleeping quarters", and will most likely hold it until you come home to let him out. It may take a couple of "accidents" before he realizes he doesn't like to go in the crate, but he'll get it. Just make sure the crate is just big enough for him to stand up in and turn around. If the crate is any larger, it'll give him room to potty, and you don't want that. Until he's crate trained, I wouldn't keep him in an area that you can't monitor him in, especially if he's making big messes, etc. hope this helps. |
Ariel ate her poop when she was younger too. We tried so many things -- we gave her pineapple, put tobasco on the poop (not a pretty sight and it smells horrible  !!!), and added some type of powder that the vet gave us to put on her food. None of them worked for us. What did work was the Solid Gold S.E.P. I sprinkled a small amount to her food everyday and she gradually stopped her nasty habit. But before you start adding anything to his food, I'd suggest keeping a close eye on him. Every time you catch him in the act of eating his poop, make sure he knows that you're not pleased with his habit. |

SEP is made by the same company that makes the Solid Gold food. SEP stands for "Stop Eating Poop" (seriously) :p We tried it with our Max, but didn't have much luck. It does work for some people though -- a lot of people have really good luck with it. Here is a link to it: Solid Gold SEP |

Good Luck My Teddy is three yrs old and he always ate his poop when he was younger. He thought he was helping me out by cleaning up after himself! lol Anyway I was grossed out and always had to wash his mouth out and brush his little teeth. I tried every product with no luck. The ones that go directly into their food gave him the runs and stomach problems. They only thing I can say is they mostly grow out of it. Good luck!;) |
