"HEEELP" pottie pad training brought my 10 week old male yorkie (Bartley) home last friday and have been trying to "pottie pad train him"..The 1st couple days i was kind of low keyed, letting him get used to his surroundings before crate training.. I would just watch him and put him on the pad when he made potty gestures..sometimes hit, sometimes miss.. on day 3, i started crate training..I would keep him in the crate for about 2.5 hrs and then take him out and put him on the pad..He would sit and sit but no pee..He would wander off and make pee gestures..back on the matt but still no pee..etc, etc, etc..He would finally wander off and pee on the carpet with about half a second warning..back on the pad, he would do nothing.. Over the next 2 days it seemed like he wanted to pee everywhere EXCEPT on the pad..In fact he even peed in his crate several times.. Ocasionally, he pees a little on his pad but mostly waits me out and pees on the carpet.. Ive tried smearing scent from his carpet pee onto his pad, etc.. Strange thing is, he seems to poop on or near the pad (most of the time). but will never pee on the pad (even when placed on it again and again.. I have a large crate for him while im at work with his bed and dishes at one end and pads at the other..He pees everywhere except on the pads. HHEEEEEELLPP.. |
I also have a 11wk. yorkie and am trying to pooty train. My last yorkie I potty trained to go outside and that was veryhard . I lost him about 3wks ago. to a car accident. He was a year and 1 month old and I learned his bm habits so I knew when to take him out for that but I constantly had to take him out about every 2-3 hr or he would have an accident. I thought he had come a long way though. This Baby I think I'm going to pad train. I got her a x-pen and keep her food and water andjbed in one end and a potty pad in the other . She sleeps in a crate by our bed at night and when she cries at night I take her out and put her in her pen on her pad and she goes and I praise her. we've had her for 2 wks this has worked well. No accidents in the crate but I have to take her to her pen every time she cries . We really just have to watch for her potty signals other than that. The pen has a gate we leave open when she's out and she actually made a mad dash for her pen last night and pooped on her potty pad. Couse she's also had an accident today but she'll learn. Anyway I really love this pen and wish I had tried this with my first yorkie. She stay in the pen when we work or just when we can't watch her I use it as I would a playpen for a baby. |
