Peeing on the bed! I just got a lill girl, Tails, she is only 10 weeks and i wanna teach her to pee on the pee pad as my schedule is too tight to take her out everytime she needs so instead of using the crate i use boundaries to limit her space, inside i put her pee pad, her bed, food, water, toys... Most of the times she pees on the pee pad but everytime i set her free even after her just used the pad she walks a lill around the room and pees again! When i see her doing it i say no and take her back to the pee pad but as soon she gets there she is fully done.. But lately things just got more complicated! She got sick and her body temperature is really low so as its winter and i dont have a heater im taking her to sleep with me in the bed just until she gets better but she just keep peeing on the bed, i wake up a lot of times during the night and put her down on the pee pad but she doesnt do anything then i put her back in the bed and a few minutes after she pees... and she is a hard one to spot she doesnt really wonder around sniffing, she basically just pee whereve she feels like and im really afraid im teaching her that its ok to pee on the bed =( i dont want her to get used.. does anyone knows what i can do? I try to keep and eye but somehow its impossible! Ive been waking up everyhour to check on her, give meds, feed and put her on the pee pad, but anyway she pees on the bed... i realllly need help!!! |
Yikes! That's a tricky one. First off, have you taken her to the vet? Do you know how long it's going to take her to recover? Since you are waking up so frequently anyway, how about using a hot water bottle in her crate, rather than taking her to bed with you? You can wake up and re-heat the bottle as necessary. She is really, really young. Potty training is a long adventure, with many highs and many, many lows. FYI, generally if people are using a small space instead of a crate, they usually line the entire space with pads, so the pup cannot make a mistake. Then as the pup matures, they take away one pad, then two, etc, until the dog is down to just one pad. |
more than one pad on the floor is a really good idea for when she gets better!! thanks for the tip! Well i took her to the vet and it will take around a week for her to get better! The problem with leaving the hot water is that she doesnt stay close to it cuz she is not feeling that cold so i kind of have to force her to stay warm under the blankets near me so she can maintain her temperature |
Be sure to spray an enzyme cleaner on the spots that she has accidents on. Otherwise, she will be able to smell it and possibly go back to those spots. Can you put a pad beside you that she can sleep on or does she wonder away from you to pee? Warm PJs might be an option. Mine always wear nightwear that is warm. There are also warming pads that are made specifically for dogs. You baby is so very young, so it's going to take a bit to potty train her. You'll read lots of threads here on YT that are about training problems.:) Wish you the best. ~Joanne~ |
Why not put soft side carrier under the blankets with her in it? she would stay warm and you would stay dry! |

Great advices. |
Another idea is for you to sleep on the floor with her so she can get up and pee on her pad in the middle of the night. That way she can be warm with you and your bed will stay dry. I would not put a pee pad on your bed, she might get used to that and cont to pee on your bed, pad or not. Like the others mentioned, your pup is so very young, Snickers was about 4 months before he was potty trained, it does take time. Good luck, hope she feels better soon! Snick & Viv |
Usually dogs do not pee where they sleep. However, she is very young. I'd keep her next to your bed in her own bed until she has a little more control. You must be consistent about where you want her to go. Otherwise, they think the whole world is their toilet.:D |
Well I feel for you... I have a one yr old female (3 pounds) and she hates the outside cold... she will pea outside get a treat and I praze her.. and she will come in the house and pea and poop... so we did do crate... and she gets it.. but mind of her own... It is a hard process especially in the winter. I have another yorkie who is sick right now.. and she can't walk. She has pad under her everywhere we go.. so maybe in bed she needs to sleep on a pad. |
