Afraid of the night Is it possible for my 4 month old yorkie to be afraid of the night?Every night from about 8 pm he starts barking as if he is hearing someone or thing while we are all still awake and busy with someting.it doesnt help to say no! Ive tried giving him a time out but it doesnt look like its working,he just starts again when he comes out?please help he is driving me mad! |
He could be...Try putting a night light by his crate or leave a light on for him...Or maybe there could be something else...Is he warm enough? Is he in his crate for too long of time? or maybe he just is spoiled like my Izzy..lol...Remember he is a baby...But boy are they smart..lol.. You may want to repost this thread in General yorkie info...you may get more advice there..Good Luck |
also try leaving a fan or a radio or something else that makes a bit of noise to hide the sounds from outside. if he can't hear it he can't bark at it. |
Hello Again Nothing is working, lights, radio,tv etc. Our house is very big so is it possible that he forgets that there is other people in the house aswell?:D |
Mine starts barking every night around 7:30 pm. I finally figured out he just wants me to get down on the floor & play with him. |
reply Thanks YorkieD,i am going to try that tonight.:DHope it works, will keep you posted. |
He could be hearing something and trying to alert or protect you We live in a condo in the city and Remy is pretty keen to all sounds, of which we have quite a few! We do not use "no" to discourage the barking or his little "alert growl" If he is reacting and there is clearly nothing wrong, or its just a strange sound (fire engine, wind, etc) we simply tell him "its just noise" Sometimes I repeat this several times "its just noise, its ok" My tone is very calm and reassuring and I continue doing whatever I was doing. He usually will stop, look at us and then will accept the sound as "safe" and "ok" Now if he barks at all it is if someone has exited our elevator, or if he wants something from us.... Realize Remy is now 1.5 years old so his response to "its just noise" is conditioned, it will take repetition and time |
