accidents on rainy days Romeo is 6 yrs old and still having accidents! They mostly occur on rainy days. He doesn't tell me he has to go potty and then I smell urine on my area rug. I take him out often in the rain and he refuses to go. He runs to the front door and barks until I let him back in. My rug is less than a year old and totally ruined. I use Nature's Miracle and it is no miracle! He will poop on the wee wee pad , but insisting on using the rug to pee. I spray the wee wee pad with the attraction spray and no luck. Are male yorkies impossible to train 100%? Any suggestions? |

As for piddle pads and rugs....I really do not know how to get them to know the difference. That is the one drawback to piddle pads. If someone has an idea about that, I would love to hear it. I have given up on leaving throw rugs down on my floors. There is a product that I have used that I think is much better than Nature's Miracle. Eco-88 and you can find it on the web. I used to use it when I had carpet. I finally went with a yorkie friendly home...all porcelain tile. :) All yorkies can have issues with housebreaking...sex of the pup does not matter! |

I believe it also helped that I continue to praise Maximo every time he uses the pad. Does Romeo always have easy access to the pad -- does he maybe piddle on your rug because he is too far away from his pad and he doesn't want to make the trip? |
If he is lifting his leg, you could fill a pop bottle with water, wrap a pad on it, and put it on the pad! |
it's a rainy day issue.. the only days we don't walk.. his pads are easily accessible. |

As for cleaning up accidents, many people are posting about white vinegar/water solution being better than Nature's Miracle at eliminating smell and stains so that the dog doesn't return to the same spot -- depends on what kind of material your area rugs are made of -- do a small spot test first. A good carpet cleaning machine is a pricey but a worthwhile investment. I bought one after my little nephews visited this year and tracked mud through the house. :p By the way, I love your avatar of little Romeo. |
