1.5 Year Old Potty Training My two girls are about 1.5 years old, Lola e Mienkie. I'd say they are 90% house trained, but I want 100% I have to replace all the carpets in the house, but don't want to till I'm happy with their potty training. Any suggestions as to how I can even re train or make sure the training work? |
I think that it is possible that the reason why they have accidents 10% of the time could actually be caused by the scent in the existing carpet. I guess it's hard to know for sure until you replace the old carper, which is certainly a dilemma. My Bailey was doing well with his litter box, and than he started having 50% accidents for few days straight! I was pretty upset and didn't know what happened. I have hardwoods in my house and I usually just wipe the spot where he missed. So I decided to wash the entire floor really well with some vinegar in the water to take out the scents and right away it fixed the issue, - he was back to going on to his litter box like he did before with fewer accidents. You are lucky that your two girls go outside, I will be trying to train my little man to do that too! |
Hi Anko, I've thought of that as well, I think you are right though. Might get the carpets washed with vinigar, I think they are house trained, but the old smells confuses them. How old is your pup? |
My pup is still pretty young, he is 6 month old. He has been mostly litter box trained so far (our winters are very cold...) He tries to chase my mop when I wash floors and than he sneezes, your girls will probably sneeze couple of times too while you're doing it. - hehe When I mix water, I use quite a bit of vinegar to make sure that the water has enough vinegar scent in it. I never tried it on a carpet though. But, I think if you use one of those vacuums that clean carpets with water it should work in the same way. But, I would suggest that you try a smaller patch first, just to make sure that your carpet won't hold the vinegar smell for a long time. It should neutralize the pee smell without causing your house to smell like vinegar for a long time. When I use it on hardwoods, it evaporates instantly and doesn't smell at all. Hopefully it works the same on a carpet. Let me know how it goes. |
Thx for the advice Anko, I'm going to try that in the next few weeks. When we mop the floor, both of my girls go mad, they don't like the mop, try to bite and pull it. I have a carpet cleaner, just to get time now, can't see why it can't work. I'll let you know anyway. |
Try and test it... If you can, cover all your carpet area with an old bed cover or blankets and see if they pee on it. I did it with Guliver when he was one year old and he stopped. It was the scent...:coffee_n_ |
I gave my daughter one of my male puppies and she has been having a heck of a time getting him to be potty train. He is now 7 months old and does really good at times and others he will cock his leg everywhere. So she put him in diapers. 2 weeks later he is now chasing her around barking for her to take him out. Guess he didn't like the feeling of being wet. |
