I have some problems training my boy
 

Hey, im new member in this site and I realy like reading your posts...

I have some problems with Cocco - 7 mo. old yorkie...
All I managed to teach him is "sit" and it is so hard to continue. I've tried to teach him to shake my hand, but just as soon as I trying to hold his hand he is going back like he afraids or something, also I can't make him lay down or anything else...

I would love to hear ur opinion

What has really worked for me (Chuchi is 5 months now) is positive reinforcement. Zero yelling at him, just a "No" when he does something wrong and a "Real good" to reinforce that it was good that he stopped doing was bad. Similarly, when I ask him to do something good (sit, stay, poop, etc...) I give him a "real good" celebration" lol. It is important that he is never scared or intimidated in order for him to be able to learn well. Hope this helps

Well the truth is we do yell at him when he does bad thing, but if we just say "No!" I don't think he cares...
Also when we want to put him in his crate we gotta chase him and catch him...

patience, repetition and treats! There are some short little training videos on youtube that are good. they helped me. I also went to a puppy class.
No yelling. I say a sturn "NO" or make the sound "eh-eh-eh" (hard to spell out)

definitely must have patience. Lots of treats helps too, lol.

What we did in class was to have an environment that the dog was focusing on you...do not give mixed signals to your pup as they do not understand. Use 1 word commands only...they will "hear" that much better than too many words. If you are trying to get him to lay down, it is easier to have in the sit position first, then bring your hand down to the floor (with a small piece of a treat) in your hand and put it on the floor. He does not get the treat until he is fully down. Keep doing this to reinforce the comman. Immediately after he is down give him treat and say "down" or whatever word you are using.

From this position, go to the next trick. It is always easier to have him sitting and then going on to the next trick. Sit is one of the easiest and easily understood command. For instance, if we don't do tricks for awhile, we have to get our 2 to lay down and then do the motion to roll over. It takes some practice. Keep in in mind, their attention span is very short so it is better to do training for lots of short periods of time rather than 1 long period of time.

The reason for this is he is scared of his crate because that is probably where you yell at him. Try making his crate into his peaceful place and a place that he wants to be in. That helps a lot!
