She bit me! My sweet, adorable 7 month old Lily was under the bed with a Kong filled with a treat and when I reached for her she snarled and snapped and attacked my hand. She was very wound up and agitated. She has never done anything like that before. I sternly told her no and took the Kong away. What should I do in the future if this happens again? Oh did I say she is my first Yorkie. I have had Golden Retrievers for the last 20 yrs and they would never think about doing such! |
She's a puppy and you were trying to take her kong...what'd ya expect?:D Sorry you got bit! I had a lil' foster boy Yorkie who was very possessive of his toys and liked to stash 'em under the bed and watch out if anybody came near his treasure trove...nip, nip, nip! |
Oh no, possessiveness is never a good thing, especially if you really want to be the leader. Maybe in addition of saying no and taking her Kong away, you can make her sit before you give her any food or toys so she submits to you. She might need a reminder here and there that you're the pack leader and she's the follower. |

I'd really suggest trying the Nothing in Life is Free program with Lily. It puts you in charge of the resources and makes Lily work for them. It is recommended by the Humane Society. Perfect answer and a great book. I wish I knew about it when Buddy was a puppy but didn't find out about it until AFTER THE FACT. He got that way around the same age. I never knew it could esculate, having a german shepard for 16yrs and a terrier mix for 15yrs. I could take anything away from them, kids roughed house with them etc, never even a flintch. Then along came Buddy. Different strokes for different breeds. Yorkies have a mind of their own and want what they want. It's time to become a leader to a little puppy. You'll get great insight from the book Jane suggested, it really does train you to train your puppy so both of you can live and enjoy life together. |

Those links are really good. I bookmarked them for myself and sent them on to my sister. |
