No more pee pad? So.... Jackson seems to be refusing to pee on the pee pad. He stays in my very large bathroom that is tiled. He pee's and poops whereever he wants. He is good about going in the bathroom, he's got that part right, but only sometimes would he pee on the pee pad. When I catch him going I put him on the pee pad and tell him to do his business and he runs off it and pees somewhere else. Also last night I saw him circleing in the livingroom so we went to the bathroom, put him on the pee pad and he ran to the wall to poo. Again, I put him on the pad and then he ran behind his cage and went. What to do? |
Are you changing the pee pad often enough? Just keep working on it, they get it eventually. |

I had to retrain my girls when i moved to my new home and we went back to the basics. When it was time to eat i put the food down, 5 minutes after eating we went to our designated area which is the bathroom. I closed the door and played with them for a few minutes and they pooped and pee'ed, id any landed on the pad we celebrated with treats like day one. this took 2 solid weeks. at this point we opened the door and i sat in my corner with toys and they would run in and out of the bathroom and fetch their toys. it was a very exciting day when my lola round the corner at 100 mph to the pad and pooped!! a 2 treat poop! we continued for another 2 weeks and they both got the hang of it. There still not perfect but they have the idea. As a reminder to them, After they have eaten a hearty dinner we repeat 1 to 2 times per week. It took longer this time around then when they were both puppies but they did enjoy the attention and treats. Lot's of Luck!!! |
My Jackson never liked the pee pads, but neither did I, so we began outdoor training at 9 weeks old in the cold Maryland December weather. :) It's worked out good for us. He's been 99.9% potty trained since around 5 months old. The other .01% is generally my fault. |
Apple never did get the jist of pee pads...She really does pretty good, going outside, as long as I take her every 4 or 6 hours...Buzz does really well on the pee pads...It's like he gets it on the pads, and she gets it, going outside...With this Texas weather so cold, I wish they would both get it going outside and on pads, but I'm not holding my breath  |

What are you using to clean the floor with? Are you using one of the enzyme cleaners you can get at most pet stores? If not, the smell is still on the floor inviting them back to go again. It should be used after each pee/poop. You may not be able to smell it, but he can. |
