Biting; using spray bottle???? Happy New Year, YT! I recently read an article that suggested to use a spray bottle to discourage a puppy from biting. Has anyone heard of this method or used this method when training not to bite? I have mixed emotions about it, part me feels like it might work, but the other part feels like it might make my furbaby afraid of water, which in turn will present a HUGE problem when it comes to bathing. . . Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
 nope , never heard of this method , :thumbdown dont think i would or could do it |

Yes I have most dogs don't like water sprayed into their face - I would use another method. How old is your pup? Have you tried the firm no's? Also you can try yelping and saying ouch and whimpering like a puppy would do if it got bit too hard in play. Never reward the behaviour if you are petting the dog stop, if the dog is on your lap put him/her down on the floor. |
I didnt use the spay bottle for biting but did use it for barking and it didnt make mine afraid of water |
I don't think you should spray your dog with with water . . . he/she may be terrified of water after that. I think you should make a loud noise, (hitting pots or pans together maybe) whenever he/she bites. That way he/she will quicky learn not to bite and not be afraid of water :) Good luck *loving owner of Vinny* |
You can also use a product called Bitter Apple and spray the item the dog is biting, ie your hands or ankles, they hate the taste. |

None of mine are afraid of water. They know the difference between water at bath time, play time and the "No, No" squirt of water. |
