Ollie rang the bell!!! O-M-G I AM SO EXCITED!!!! I have been teaching Ollie to ring the bell when to go potty. Well he comes close but never does it. Soooo just a bit ago, he needed to go potty. We were at the door and I rang the bell and said "potty". Then I told Ollie, Ollie ring the bell if you need to go potty. He didnt do it so I rang it again, said potty then took his paw made him do it and said potty. THENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN HE DID IT ALL BY HIMSELF!!!!!!!!!! HE RANG THE BELL!!!!!! Now granted he will probably never do it again bc I scared the beejesus out of him when I hollered from excited:rolleyes: |
Yay!!!! Good Job Ollie!! Im sure he will do it again. :) |

I sure hope so. I have been training without treats and just doing praise. I may have to start with treats now if he seems scared of it. I was just so excited, I couldnt help it. |
Oh that is great!! I have thought about trying that because they don't tell me any other way. Great job Ollie!! |
Yay!!! He'll do it again! He's a good boy! |
Great job Ollie! It is exciting when they learn something new  |
This is a great idea, would love to try it on mu two though I suspect they might have a bit too much fun with it. Alfie is pretty good about asking but Rosie will wait until put out or sometimes lie gazing outside so it can be difficult to interpret. What kind of bell do you use? |
Congrats! Quote:
Mine does that as well.. but sometimes when he is bored, he rings it just to go outside and lick snow and hop around..lol.. he tries to ring it 4 times in an hour.. i know when he does it to go play.. hopefully your dog doesn't pick that up and make you let him out so often! The secret it to physically take his paw and make him swipe it each and every time before you open that door. After a few times he will look at you wanting you to open the door but look at him and take and hit is paw several times in a row before you let him go out .. i make my dog repeat it and he smacks it like a punching bag so i can hear from upstairs or in any room, sometimes he does it for a minute straight...lol You can buy bells at craft shops.. they are like the ones you see on christmas wreaths. Just hang it from string from the craft shop or a shoelace from the knob low enough so that your dog and swipe it with their paw. |
The replies here have me giggling. My little girl is doing very well at ringing the bells. Ha ha, well, waaay to well. She doesn't just ring them, she picks up the bottom of the ribbon and literally shakes them and bangs them against the door until someone comes and opens the door! When they get to the door she drops the ribbon and looks at you like what took so long! LOL. I was starting to think she found a new game, but I watch, and she does go out and potty......and play. |
I must try this, I noticed my neighbour has a bell hanging from a ribbon on her door and think this must be for her dogs. Next time out shopping I will find a bell and have a go, but I expect the kids will mess with it! |
