Urg!
 
So I got my little boy on sunday night and its now weds. He is chewing on everything! We have to leave him in the bathroom during the day because no one is home, and then when I let him out he chews! Shoes, Chairs, any kind of wood furniture, and then me! Its so frustrating because I know he is just bored but still what can I do. Another problem that is arising already in the humping of the hands, feet, and toys. How do I break that? Please help!

Fix him...

Play with him.

Start training. Most clicker training books have some GREAT excercises to teaching your dog to chill out.

If he is chewing things, try bitter apple spray, but also get him some chew-toys and leave three or so out at a time. Let him know what's o.k. to chew and what isn't.

do you leave him toys in the bathroom? get some good quality "teething" toys for him. i recommend a variety. they do get bored.

don't let him chew shoes! if he learns to chew even on old ones, they all become fair game. even old flip-flops have that shoe-y smell.

you can get some no chew spray to put on your wood furniture. a neighbor recommended for a fence some cayanne pepper. who knows. it's probably more organic.

the humping thing you just have to not let him do it. some people think it's cute. if you don't (like me) just don't let him. tell him no, move away, and make sure the other people in your life do the same. my 5 year old son thinks it's hilarious. he has even laughed his butt of as Edgar "gets friendly" with him. (Can't let my son say hump--It's just wrong!) I have to make sure he tells Edgar "No!"

If he's left home alone and confined all day he's probably lonely frustrated and bored and when he gets out of the bathroom he lets out all his frustration on your chairs, shoes, furniture, etc. Some of that is normal puppy stuff but if it's extreme you may want to try something different. If you get him fixed that will help with the humping. Try to be patient as puppyhood can be trying at times but well worth it once you learn what works with your puppy. They are all different:) Best wishes!!
