Trouble pooping in the cold. I've been training my puppy Kimchee to potty indoors. The thing is, she has no problem peeing on the pads but she will not poop indoors. She always asks to go out (by barking, becoming agitated and heads toward the door) to poop. Anyways, this has worked out well but lately it's been very cold here in Chicago. She will ask to go out but once we are out she'll sniff around but will not poop. I'll bring her back in but then she asks to go out a couple more times until finally she can't take it anymore and eventually poops outside. Any ideas of how to get her to poop indoors? I bought the Potty Patch and planned on having her poop on that and pee on the pads (she won't poop in the same place she pee'd). Unfortunately she won't do either on the Potty Patch. Ideally, I would like to keep the Potty Patch in the garage and take her there to poop on that. It would be much warmer for the both of us. :) |
Same here. Ruger was peeing and pooping outside, then it got really cold and he'd kinda run out and back in without doing anything. Heck, even I don't want to go outside. I put the pads where he pooped, and for the most part it worked. He still poops in places I'd rather not have him, but fortunately he's so small the mess isn't too bad. I'm hoping in the spring I can put in a dog door and get him to go out on the deck. It's one floor up and should keep him out of the snatches of predators around here, coyotes and foxes. |
I could use a response on this as well. Hello from the Chicago suburbs where it is freezing. My little Maltese will go outside and run right back in. I even put a jacket on his to keep him warm but he says it is just tooo cold to do his business outside. |
Kimchee has a sweater on but I think the problem is the ground/snow is too cold for her paws. On a side note; anybody have boots on their little one? Quote:

Boots I would love to use boots but my guys don't know how to walk with them. Maybe I should have them wear them in the house for a few minutes and keep increasing the time until they get use to them. I'm going to check out the website for booties. |
I tried the pee pads too, it was hit and miss most of the time, as for cold weather, wet weather, snow, JD hates it all. Know they now have a doggy litter box, has anyone tried that???? |
Mine pees on the side of the litterbox and freaks out when I encourage him to go in. No treat in this universe could con him into it. He panics with booties and tears them off. He refuses to poop outside if it's wet. He will hold it in until he's constipated. A pee pad is a joke. I have to stand outside with him until it's impossible for him to hold it in any longer. Maybe time will fix things. |
