Is it too late? My Tinker is 11 mos. and people keep telling me it is getting to late to train her. I would have taken her to puppy school earlier, but when I got her she had giardia(might have not spelled that right). Then when she got over that she was getting sick from the Eukanuba, and then she got spayed. So she has had a rough start, and I didn't want to add any stress on her while she was sick. Now she is all healthy and happy, but now she has a couple of bad habits. I got some suggestions from a behaviorist, but you know yorkies they are stubborn :) . I want to start obedience training, but I have been told it is getting too late. Is that true? |
Personally I don't think it's ever too late. If you have the discipline and patience then you can train your puppy. It might take a little longer than if you started training right away but persistance pays off. You could try training on your own or even seek professional help. My little guy (8 months) loves learning new tricks, to him it's showing off!! Good Luck to You and Tinker!! |
I really agree with "Ranger's" advise ! :D And, Tinker Toy, I can so much see why you did not instill much training while Tinker was not feeling well. I would have done the same thing. I feel Yorkies of any age are like a sponge and soak up "learning"...They thrive on it!! I would think that if you kept it positive for Tinker and turned a lot of her training into a game to keep her attention she will show you all that she can be! :D I am so happy to hear that Tinker is doing great now, yeah yeah!! :p |
it is never too late to train ....... its a great way to make a deeper bond with your baby (my golden retreiver would obey my EVERY command, i didnt have to speak she understood different commands through whistles, hand commands, spoken commands........ wonderful way to bond......) |
It's never too late to train. It takes awhile for older dogs sometimes, but yours is still pretty young :) When I got Sandy I took her to a class and now she knows "sit" "stay" "off" "drop it" "dance" and "fetch" -- And as was said, it is a great way to strengthen the bond between the two of you :) It's been a lot of work for us, but very much worth it to have a well mannered dog. |
11 months old is not to old to train a dog at all. My first yorkie never had any obedience training until she was well over 2 year old. Another of my yorkie didn't have his first obedience class until he was 8 month old. |
i wish Buckeye had had an obedience class but he is just himself. we didn't get him until he was 2 yrs old and the lady said he was fully house broke. but he was not at all. it took some time but he learned very well and he also learned all the neat little tricks since we got him ;) . he is still learning things. |
It is NEVER too late! Boucer is 3 years old and I JUST put him in training two months ago and he has learned SO quickly! It's never too late at all. :D |
