Need advice...Starting new potty routine. I have been blessed that Kaji came pretty much potty trained. Tammy did a great job with him and he already knew exactly what to do and that outside was the only place to do it. However, our situation has changed and we will be moving soon. Our new living situation will not allow for as much outside time as he has now. For both my piece of mind, and for Kaji's bladder's health :p I am going to try to teach him to use potty pads. Anyone have advice for re-training an 18 month old baby that it's ok to potty indoors, as long as it's on the pad? I think this is going to be very confusing since he knows pottying inside is a BIG no-no. |
Going on two hours sitting here trying to get Kaji to go on the pads. He's whinning to be taken outside to potty, but I really want him to learn to potty inside on the pad. He has had little accidents everywhere but the pads. The wait continues..... |
how did the training go yesterday? one thing you can try to make an easier transition is to take the pee pad with you and place it outdoors where your doggie goes to the bathroom, and have him go on the pee pad, and slowly you move the pee pad closer to the house. and eventually the pee pad is moved in the house and hopefully this will be an easier transition for your dog to understand what you want him to do. :) |
Probably a good idea. The only reason I started yesterday was because it was pouring outside. The sun's out today so I'll try this method. THANKS! |
Yes try starting with the pad outside... once you finally get the pad indoors make sure it has pee on it... bring the dirty one from outside... this will remind him that this is where he should go to the bathroom! Good Luck. |
bringing a little bit of dirt and grass from outside is a good idea. (when you get to that point) :D basically, you are trying to get your baby to understand what you want him to do, so however you can communicate clearly with him will help him understand what you want him to do and make it less frustrating for you and him. let us know if you need more help, i tried everything when i trained milu, i didn't know what i was doing(she is my first dog) some things worked and others didn't. i can share more with you if you need more help. :aimeeyork good luck! :D |
Indoor Potty Training How about trying one of those grass potty pads. I am in the process of potty training my 10month old (very long process) and that is what I use when I am at work. My little guy uses the grass potty pad successfully when confined to the laundry room. However, once I let him have free run of the house (with me watching his every move) he won't go near the grass potty in the laundry room.:aimeeyork |
Taking him outside turned into a fiasco! He kept running away from the pad because he REALLY NEEDED TO GO and he will only pee/poo on grass. It was windy this morning and the pad kept crumpling up. When I tried to straighten it out, Kaji scurried over to a grassy patch to pee in piece. Since he did squat, I quickly picked him up and placed him on the pad and said "go pee pee" which I then praised and treated. He looked so confused!!!!!! He then tried running away from me to go poop. I did the same thing, picked him up mid poop and he finished on the pad. I again treated but he didn't want it. He doesn't understand that pottying on the pad is good. My person to doggy communication needs work, but oh what adventures we're starting to have. :rolleyes: |
Will he HAVE to go inside, or is it just in case? How long will you be gone for? |
