Whining Does it stop when teething stops? I feel like Derby's getting whinier... |
Neither of mine ever whined for the most part unless there was something they wanted. Why is he whining? Is it when he is in his crate? |
No he doesn't whine in the crate, he whines when out of the crate. There is the whine to get outside, and whine to go for his usual walk... but here is the "other whining" He gets full attention, and is never left home for more than 4 hours. one of us is playing with him and he goes for 2 walks a day. He often gets to socialize and go to a dog park He never has accidents, so he gets let out/we let him when needed This is ridiculous! He whines when we're getting ready to go outside He whines when we come back from a walk! He whines when we're on the streetcar He whines when we're sitting at home!? He whines when one of us leaves the house (understandable) He whines when we're laying on the couch, but putting him on the couch doesn't change anything Right now he's sitting on my lap-- whining!! I picked him up because he was whining on the couch, and brought him over to me... and he's still whining... I mean - this is excessive!!! |

Whining to go outside is acceptable though. When he whines, you should ignore him. If the whine turns to worse, then get up and walk away. If you start ignoring him every time he whines, he'll start to learn that whining doesn't get him what he wants. In fact it gets him something he really doesn't want...you ignoring him or walking away! Some dogs are naturally vocal in some ways. But his whines (except for potty) should never be to direct you to do something. Otherwise it may never stop! Good luck with your clever baby! |
My Milly whines alot aswell and she's six! You just have to be firm with him and tell him 'NO' when he starts. Milly usually stops after I shout that, and if not, she will get timeout in another room by herself. Its merely attention seeking and he won't have an idea how annoying it really is on our ears! So you gotta let him know with a little bit of tough love. Just like a real baby |
We don't always pick him up when he whines. today I did because my husband had played with him and let him out of his cage when he came off night shift. I was still sleeping. He came into our room to wake us up. From the minute i got out of bed until we got to the dog park (including when we just got home! NOW!) he was/is still whining. I can't take him anywhere, I can't be with him at home anywhere... That was his first walk of the day... So him whining at him while my husband was trying to sleep? not cool. I was trying to keep him quiet! Ignoring was not working!! He often gets the "NO WHINING!!!" & "QUIET" yell from us. The same tone as "No Barking" Sometimes we'll come out with SHUT UP! I hate saying it, but some days I am at the end of my rope- whining wise. do you think yelling "No whining" and "Quiet!" gives him attention to whine more? It seems we're always telling him to be zip it. lol |
It sounds like whining has almost become a habit for him. This is what I would do. First teach him whining. He whines, say yes, that's whining and give him a treat. Then hopefully he will be quiet for a second. The second he is quiet, give him a treat and say good boy, that's quiet. Now tell him quiet and get him to stay quiet longer and then treat, over time you expect him to be quiet longer and longer. Always try to end each session on a successful note. Good luck and I hope it works. |
He's whining because it gets him what he wants Think of it like this If you have a whiny 4 year old Whose always saying ....... Mommy, I wanna go outside Mommy .... I want a toy I'm hungry If you listen to that and give in You're going to get MORE whining So stop giving into the whining The next time he whines You Do Not react ..... don't turn around Don't give him eye contact As soon as he stops Good Boy! and you do what he wanted soon he'll notice No whines .... I get what I want |
