bark bark bark Wyatt has just started barking at EVERYTHING and I do mean everything. tv, wind, shower, anyone getting out of bed at night. he even barks at "quiet farts". I have 3 other dogs and instead of learning to be quiet like they are he is teaching them all to bark. If someone comes to the door it sounds like I have at least 15 dogs. Wyatt is about 6 months old and has never displayed this behaviour before. It started this past 2 weeks. He'll wake up in the middle of the night and start barking at nothing. I am ready to put a shock collar on him (not really). Any suggestions. Maybe some cotton in his ears at night? (lol) He has been with the other three dogs since he was 12 wks old. the other 3 are a 1 year old yorkie and 2, 3 year old's. one is a coton de tulear and the other is a king charles cavalier. |
I know exactly what you mean. With my five, when someone comes to the door or when we get home after work, you would think you're were at the local dog pound! LOl. I have one that is 7 months old and barks at the wind, rain, ghosts, etc. As soon as he barks, the other four run over to him and also start barking although they have no idea why or what they're barking at:eek:. I have found a squirt bottle with water works wonders. As soon as Peanut or any of the others start up for no reason, they get a squirt of water, right in the kisser! I do not squirt them for barking at the doorbell, UPS man etc. But I will squirt if they bark when they hear the neighbors talking or kids playing, wind chimes blowing etc. |

Thanks for your help. I will pick up a squirt gun and have ordered one of the ultrasonic noise training devices. Hopefully they will work. I just wish I knew what started all of the barking. |
Just FYI: 2 weeks ago, I bought an ultrasonic anti-bark device for Lucy. Sadly, it seems to be making the problem worse - she hates the noise, and just competes with it. I know these things can take time to work, as the fur baby has to learn to associate the bad noise with barking, but it just drives Lucy into a frenzy. |
Hi I found a good ole fashioned rolled up newspaper smacked on a table worked wonders for Jackson. He hates the sound of it.Just has to hear the paper being picked up now and he stops Good luck |
I have the same problem, tried the barking device,he barked even louder, tried the newspaper, he just keeps on going. I have sliding doors leading to my back yard and he stands there all day and barks at anything that moves. It's enough to make you go insane. I have been crating him when he starts barking, but that isn't working too well either, when I let him out he just goes back to where he left off. |
I think maybe duck tape will cure the problem. (just kidding) One barking is bad enough but when you get 3 others that chime in, it becomes obnoxious! I am selling them all. Need a Christmas present for a deaf friend ? |
Have you tried coins in a can? I'd forgotten about that. Hot Rod usually stops when I say "ah ah" to him--now. It's to the point I don't even have to shake the can anymore, just picking it up and showing it does the trick with whatever behavious is going on. |
teach him to speak--then to be quiet--worked for us. |
have you guys tried the collar that sprays citronella? We were thinking about trying that for bandit on walks. The cans and water bottle works to a certain extent in the house, but not at all outside on walks. |
My baby started barking at about 6 months as well, out of no where! at first waving treats in front of his face and saying 'Hush' worked but not anymore. We have a spray bottle and will squirt him when he barks and now you just reach for the bottle and he'll stop. Noe we just need him to not start  |
I just put up a thread about the citronella spray collar. I also tried the ultrasonic noise one and Kramer barked even louder to compete with it also, spray bottle works for 10 seconds and the newspaper not at all, so i got the collar and so far it has worked only have it for 2 days so let's see. |
well I got the ultrasonic control and Wyatt stopped barking the instant I hit the button. The problem is that one of my other dogs went absolutely nuts. SHe totally shut down. It took hours for her to stop shaking and panting. I thought she was going to die. It worked so well with the "barker" but I am afraid to use it again because of Hannah's awful reaction. Now I guess it is the water-spray collar. Thanks for all of your suggestions. If I could use the ultrasonic control my problems would have been solved... |
