Potty Training Issues I know a lot of people have problems with potty training and ive tried to be consitent with everything but it seems like shes getting worse :S She's 3 months old right now and I have been taking her outside after she eats or drinks and she was doing very well but the past week shes been peeing and pooing inside the house even though she just peed (sneaky) :P Today she peed on my moms bed D: I was so shocked because she's never done that before and I was in the middle of playing with her and out of nowhere BAM! She's peeing :o I don't know what to do :( I think making a strick schedule may help.. My parents are becoming very frustrated with it and we are moving soon so I need to get her housebroken :'( |
I put Fergie on a schedule and it helped a lot. She still has accidents but not as frequent as before. I wake up at the same time everyday and take her out, then come in and feed her and take her out a half hour after she eats. Then I take her out every 2-3 hours until her next feeding and repeat. I don't let her have any food after about 8:30 and take her out for the last time around 10 or 11 so there's no accidents in the middle of the night. |
New too at potty training I've had my little yorkie for a week now, he is just over 8 weeks old. The best advice my vet gave me was to take him out every 45 minutes. Seems alot, and I am lucky enough to have the time to do so. I've learned also to stop any food and water atleast 3 hours before bed, this has helped alot... in fact by the time it's bedtime he is so tired from playing that he has been sleeping anywhere between 5-8 hrs in his crate, before he awakens to go outside. Then I place him back in the crate to go back to sleep, as he is in our room he only whines a bit before going back to bed if it is too early to get up. I am finding the best thing to do if there is an accident (Mojo peed on my bed when my son was getting hom ready to go out), I say "no" and immediately take him outside. I've been telling him the words outside and also telling him "do your business" as soon as I place him in his designated area. Best of luck...I am too finding it a challenge to catch him before accidents, and have learned to really watch his sniffing or circling as indicators. |
Strict Schedule I know how stressful this time can be. You want to have fun with your puppy, but you don't want her making a mess. At 3 months, she's still quite young. Sydney's vet told me not to trust her until about a year old. The best investment I made was purchasing a crate (small cage) and "How to House Train Your Dog in Seven Days." It doesn't actually happen in seven days, but the concept behind it really does work. 7 a.m. potty. 7:30 breakfast. Play. 8 a.m. potty. 8:15 play. 9 a.m. back in crate. 12 p.m. lunch. Play. 12:30 potty. 12:45 play. 1 p.m. back in crate. 5 p.m. dinner. Play. 5:30 potty. Play. 6 p.m. back in crate. 8 p.m. play. Last drink of water for the night. Play. 9 p.m. back in crate. 11 p.m. potty. Play. Back in crate 11:30 p.m. When you stick to a strict schedule and give food and water at a set time each day, you will know when she has to go #1 and #2. Also, do not give her free access to the house. She is still too young for freedom. Try to keep her in a bare floor area such as the kitchen for food and play. Please let us know how it goes. |
I got my baby in July and she still isn't potty trained. She knows what "Do you need to go potty means?" but she won't always go when I take her. I also would like for her to be able to tell me she needs to go...any advice? |
some people use a bell for the dog to ring when it needs to I heard :P could be wrong. I need to come up with a good schedule for my pup, one that I can follow to a T >:P So she will be closer to being housebroken. Just not sure what good times are >_< grrr |
I also did the crate training and taking them out on a schedule. Never let them out of your site,if you can't watch her put her back in the crate. It does take longer than 7 days, but it works. Kramer is 2 and he has an accident 1 every 4 months and sometimes longer and most of those are our fault because we are out too long. I tried many different things and this was the only thing that actually works and he was about the same age when I started. Good Luck! |
Another tip, get excited when she pees outside... I mean really excited! You want her to know she did the right thing. Associate a word with doing the business. I personally used "pee". I'd take Lexi outside, ask her to "go pee", once she did I would get congratulate her by getting really excited, giving her a rubdown and occasionally treats while saying "good pee". |
